I was an avid watcher of E4 last year, taping as much as possible so as not to miss anything and I must admit the "lazy" references always amazed me. Brian may not have taken charge in the kitchen, or did as many chores as some of the others, but he more than made up for it in the way he entertained and supported the other housemates. I also don't remember him whining. He worried about people's perception of him in the outside world, his relationship with his parents etc, but for example he took all the criticism of his attitude to josh on the chin. Never once did he run whingeing to the other h/m's about the way Josh treated him, (the mind games, the constant sexual harrassment, etc etc ) despite the fact that Josh tried his best to turn all the other housemates against Brian.
Compare this to Alex's crtiticism of virtually all the other housemates, his assertion that the public would be crazy to vote for "any of these idiots", his reluctance to bury the hatchet with Jonny or anyone he'd had an argument with, his constant moaning, his cruel and unnecessary taunting of Jade, his ungracious and frankly pathetic speech on thursday night... I could go on, but having seen the treatment meted out to anyone who dares be critical of Alex I'll just say I liked him but he whined, and leave it at that! ”
yb, not saying your wrong particularly - I am afraid my tired old brain can't remember details, like yours apparently can. Just a remembered impression that struck me as interesting because I didn't mind it in Alex but did in Brian.
Wish I was on the forum last year, as I don't remember the Josh/Brian situation being like that either. Personally, I liked Josh. At one time I thought Brian fancied him but maybe Josh just made Brian a bit insecure. Not sure. Would be interested to know anyone else's opinion. I know its ancient history - but some of us like history
yb, please say whatever you like about Alex, if you don't like any of the replies, just ignore them. Its all about interpretation isn't it. For me I liked Alex's speech, it was how he felt so I would rather he said that than pretend otherwise. I know he was a bit mean to Jade but they had a bit of a love/hate relationship and she had been rude to him first, so again, I didn't mind that. Not making up with Johnny, if you don't like someone - why pretend, you would be called two-faced and in my opinion, it is two-faced. I know we sometimes have to do these things and bite the bullet (esp at work) but if you were with someone 24/7 for 9 weeks in that sort of environment, I would guess that would be unworkable.
