I am the proud owner of a Packard Bell AudioKey 512mb MP3 Player.
I bought it for £39.99 in a sale clearance at Dixon’s just after Xmas; it then went back up to its original price of 59.99.
To My amazement after going into Dixon’s today and also checking at PC world the same device as gone rocketing up to £119.99.
Can someone explain this terrific deal I had?

Its all in the mind.

Many many items in PC world and Dixons are priced artifically so that an item can be sold at an OK price.

A relation of Gerald Ratner is a director maybe.

A 512MB player going for £120? You can get a 1GB iPod for that price

I am aware on the costs of Ipods etc but there is a heck of difference between paying £39.99 and then if I was to go in now and pay £199.99 for the same thing.
My Point is the difference. "I Dont Want an Ipod" they are more trouble than they are worth

Pricing like this is standard to get around the law. In order to say "Reduced From", "Original Price" or something similar, the product has to have been on sale for a certain period at the higher price (28 days IIRC). What many retailers do is to put something on sale at a ridiculously high price in a small number of stores for a while so it qualifies.

Yep it's a mark up..they'll be doing it so they can reduce it for the next sale..£119 for a 512Mb!! That's outrageous, considering what you can get if you look about I don't think you got an amazing deal..I think you paid a fair price! They just want you to think you got a deal.

EDIT - PC World and Dixons are both owned by the Arcadia Group.

Don't know where you got that from, but Arcadia own assorted fashion companies. They are nothing to do with Dixons/PC World.

Dixons/Currys/PC World/The Link are owned by DSG.

Virgin Megastores sell 512mb players for around £40. I would be loathed to spend £120 on one with that capacity, especially if I didn't want an Ipod as Creative make MP3 players too
While on the subject, I wanted a SD card for my MP3 player from AOL rewards, Dixons (and Jessops) sell them for £80.00 each. I said no thanks

www.7dayshop.com

sell 1GB cards for £33.99. Some saving eh?
