Repair Question

A question regarding the possible repair of a Topfield 5800 if required.
The reason i ask is because I am thinking of purchasing one of these machines and have been ringing around some local dealers here in Norfolk.
I know we are stuck out on a limb here and a bit behind the times, and it might be a bit of sour grapes but some of the local main dealers are telling me to be wary because of possible repair and parts problems.
Any thoughts and advice on this please.

Local main dealers? Who would those be, then? People who sell other equipment?

Aside from the fact that the boxes are pretty reliable, the importers have been around for a long while, dealing in lots of other kit. And they've certainly been seen to be very helpful with people who had problems and have bought from now-defunct retailers, such as Unbeatable.

What parts problems do they envisage? A sudden shortage of standard hard drives? Or the inability of the importer to supply a new box if the existing one is broken? Neither of those seems terribly likely, frankly.

What are these 'main dealers' offering to sell you instead?

Take a look at www.toppy.org.uk/shops.php and you'll find a few regional chains that have outlets in east anglia.

I'd tend to agree. the local dealers will tell you any sort of bull to put you off buying from out of town

If you buy your Toppy from Turbosat (the importer) and if you have a problem, and if Turbosat don't sort it out for you before you have f*rted out the first verse refrain of "Rule Britannia!" (and the next line is: rule, subjunctive, NOT rules, indicative BTW), I'll eat Nigel's hat.

Hi to all of you thanks for the replys.
One local Euronics dealer had never heard of the Topfield and tried the argument of spares and repairs and tried to supply me with a JVC as a replacement, but with only one tuner.
Since i posted i have found out that one of my local dealers Hughes can supply me with one, so I have ordered it.
I should be getting it delivered on Thursday so you may be getting a few help questions from me shortly, as i am a bit of an oldy and my wife keeps reminding me that i definately need help.
