I have a Pacific DVD player from ASDA (the cheapest model) It worked O.K. for 3 or 4 weeks, but will now only play random DVDs.

For example, it will play disc 2 of the Family Guy boxset, but not discs 1 or 3. It refuses to play discs 1 & 2 of Arrested Development, but will play disc 3. When I put the DVD in it tries to load, but then decides that there is "No Disc".

Sometimes, if you're willing to spend two hours pressing "Open" and "Close" on the control it will deign to play your disc, but not always.

Does anyone have any ideas what the prob could be? We tried opening it and cleaning the laser lens, but it made no difference.

Take it back to Asda and get a replacement or a refund.

I think I've left it too late, it's been a few months now.

Dont you get a year's warratee from Asda then?

I'm not sure - the problem is, it was a Christmas gift from last year. We didn't play it much at first because we still had mostly videos, but when we started, it was incredibly sporadic in what it would play.

Doesn't matter. Still not fit for purpose.
