SkyHD or TWHD
I have a few questions for you hd buffs.
1. Do you go for SkyHD or TelewestHD (I already have Sky+ , but would leave if the other was a better deal) 2. I have a Samsung LE32R41BDX HD Ready TV and view it from about 10ft away will i get the full benefit of HD over SD with this set at this distance. 3. Will Telewest have any Broadcast channels at launch of there service as none have been announced. 4. Who will launch there service first. Many Thanks hope you can help me. I am happy to pay the £300 what is being touted about for Sky just looking for best service with the most options. |

1) Depends
![]() TW will provide loan hardware with an install charge and some service charge for the DVR and maybe access to HD via Teleport, we do not know for sure. SKY will sell the STB and there will be a charge for the subscription HD content, SKY+ facility likely to be bundled with the package. Until both companies have their HD systems on offer to the public we simply do not know but I won't be surprised if SKY keep all their HD channels exclusive. 2)Yes. HD source material (720p or 1080i) will make your LCD look magnificent. HD flat panels are designed for HD, showing SD (even DVD) is full of compromises. 3) TW have contracts with the BBC and Pathe, there are many other sources of HD besides SKY and no word if Discovery or History (when it comes) will be a SKY exclusive and of course there is Euro1080's channels. 4) TW have units in the field and I expect TW to launch officially first and remember they will probably be pushing the DVR aspect more than the HD. |

Much has been said about upscaling i know the resolution of my Samsung LE32R41BDX is 1366 x 768 will this be a problem as some say it will. I saw this set before i bought showing some HD footage and it looked great.

![]() Scaling a 1280*720p source to 1366*768p is not a cause for concern although some panels have 1:1 mapping of a 1280*720 source and would leave a small black border around the esges, not sure if the Sammy does that. A 1920*1080i (or variation there of) source downscaled to 1366*768p has more potential for problems but my Philips LCD (same res as yours) handles 1080i with no problems at all. It's also likely that both STB's will allow you to select the HD outpu resolution (regardless of the source even SD) so like an upscaling DVD player you can see which you prefer. |

Didn't you ask this the other day? 1) Well if you've got Sky+ I find it hard to imagine you'd give that up for TW. It's more expensive and has less channels and no red button services on Sky's channel's (sport, movies, news) 2) Hell yeah! I'm surprised you asked, you have seen a HD source on this set, right? 3) Chances are Sky will always have more channels and for cheaper 4) If TW launch this month, it won't be anything like Sky's lineup. I can't see any benefit of getting TW installed if you're already an existing Sky+ user. |

Sky 2 Mix (35 channels) £15.00 Telewest Starter (35 channels) £5.50 Sky 4 Mix (70 channels) £18.00 Telewest Essential (70 channels)£10.50 Sky 6 Mix (100 channels) £21.00 Telewest Supreme (100 channels) £15.50 Telewests packages are cheaper in fact the lowest package on sky costs nearly the same as Telewests top package!! |

Sky - 6 mixes + Sky World = £42.50 Telwest - Supreme package £17.50 + Sky Movies & Sports Pack £26.50 = £44.00 Basically, Telewest is cheaper if you have less than 6 mixes/Supreme with Sky Movies/Sports or any base without Sky Movies/Sports - otherwise Sky is probably a better option. Baring in mind that Sky will be providing most of the HD content to begin with, Sky HD does seem like a better deal. You can also guarantee that Sky will not offer their HD channels to their competitors for a few years (ala Sky Sports Xtra). |
