I took Endemol to be George's target too. He hardly meant the little pawns in the house now did he? You can bet GG's solicitors are pouring over his contract as we write.

Great first post! I agree there do seem to be a lot of fairly short-sighted people expressing dubious opinions on the US housemates simply because of their country of birth.

When I moved to Kentucky when I was 18 my mum gave me some great advice - that she knew I was open minded but how would I react when I encountered people who in my opinion weren't - ie who had a different view on life, even if they didn't seem all that different on the face of it.

It was great advice as it taught me to accept people on face value, not to judge them soley on the culture and morals that I was used to living by, but to embrace their culture while I was there. I had some stand up arguments with a typical republican gun-toting, fairly racist friend about his world views, but he was also one of the kindest, most generous men I've ever met. I guess the moral is that you can find points of difference and similarities with everyone if you look hard enough - it all comes down to whether you want to get along or if you'd rather create tension.

I've now been lucky enough to travel pretty much all over the US and have encountered Americans whose favourite TV show is AliG, Americans who beg me to brng them Cadburys and PG Tips and Americans who swear WW2 started in 1942. I don't let me knowledge of one teint my opinion of the others. I like Traci and Dennis - and is the poster who suggested that US celebrities shouldn't be on our shows going to go round to Hugh Laurie's house and wrestle his Golden Globe off him?

An amazing thread considering that the support for Traci & Dennis on this forum far exceeds the support for those 2 housemates reflected in the bookies odds to win.

What is it with our LOVE of Americans would be a more appropriate question to ask.

There are some wonderful people in America, some bad like you get everywhere. They just have poor leadership at the moment.

It isn't about America. It's about Traci and Dennis.

Dennis

Is used to his own way,

has "staff"

is used to having sycophantic hangers on,

apparently plays Lord Bountiful by having a permanently open house party,

is very physically imposing

is very wealthy and well known in the USA

Isn't emotionally needy or insecure

Doesn't need to form alliances/ display loyalty

Tendancy to take things for granted

Is lazy and unhygienic

expects deference and respect

Doesn't seek emotional intimacy

Has a fairly contemptuous attitude to women

Emphatic.. Has no problem voicing opinion but prefers not to

Is in it to win it.....Competitive

Traci

Looks to men for "validation" and support

has low self esteem

uneasy about decision making/ giving opinion

Wants family rather than career

over cautious of making alliances

Doesn't know who to trust

remains non-committal where possible

Can't work out who dislikes her or why, particularly in light of her "harm none" strategy.

Has an idealistic sense of fair play

Competitive, but less openly so

Youngest child.. somewhat naive

Erm if we were so against "americans" why did Traci and DEnnis both manage to stay when they were up against "Brits"?

# Don't wanna be an American Idiot #
Mostly just stupid bible bashing try-hards, who have mannerisms that offend and values that are so contradictory and inane that they even hate each other!
It is not them all, however their general lack of knowledge about the rest of the world and protectionist militaristic bravado sticks in my craw!

I'm not so sure it is just an American/English thing; I think generally speaking we are all guilty of type casting people.
Young blonde girl must have a silly, fluffy personality.
Big guy plays sport must therefore be lacking in brains.
Older actress must be resentful of the younger ones and so on, we all do it in our everyday life to some extent.

It always amuses me when people refer to 'Americans' as if they were one great mass. There's little in common between a Californian liberal, A bible-belter, a typical Texan ( if there is such a thing with their diverse history ) and a New Yorker. It's somewhat akin to someone from another country typifying the British as cold, aloof and in favour of invading Iraq.

Stereotyping people from another country is no different from racism, it's borne out of ignorance and xenophobia. Whilst I understand the way national sterotypes have emerged, I can't say the Americans I know nor, for example, the French actually do resemble their national stereotypes. Similarly, many Americans who've visited me have been surprised at how little we comply with their stereotypes of the British.

Exactly - spot on can those denying any knowledge of anti-american sentiment on this forum refer themselves to post numbers 5 and 37....

Unfortunately the Education and CIA Indoctination through their patriotic (zenephobic) press is present, with neither doing any research into BB culture and both expecting to be "top dog" however like the difference between Dennis & Traci and the obvious dislike Dennis has for (as he said) "American Women" there are differences in attitude and manner, "Oh my god i've been nominated!"
If you remember Pete & George both spoke eloquently on the mannerisms and LA style that Traci had aquired, which I personally find about as irritating as Maxwell & Saskia who's regionalised stereotypical behaviour was not acceptable either.
The imperial attitude that has rightly all but disappeared from our society does not excuse someone else taking on that arrogant and exploitative attitude.

Endemol must also be cited as racist as we have now seen how many American imports to a British Gameshow, but non from other former colonies. Do Endemol not originate in Australia, who have their own race issues, and one must wonder if their agenda is entirely kosher!

Isn't it the British way, Some Scots dislike English/Welsh, some English dislike Welsh/Scots and some Welsh hate Scots/English, we've been like this for centuries and we seem to have the same feelings towards most countries in the world. Just count ourselves lucky we didn't have any Germans (only joking) in the house.

Yes. Thank you. The first post is very well put, but I don't like the assumption that we all feel like that. I certainly don't.

Germaine Greer = Australia
Brigitte Nielsen = Denmark
Keith Duffy = Ireland
Faria Alam = Bangladesh
Plus several Americans.

Whilst not all from former colonies, I am not sure how you can accuse Endemol of being racist.

Tracy was on the Reality TV show "The Surreal Life" in America. They must not have shown what they are showing the UK because she seemed pretty reserved and not goofy at all like I'm reading of her CBB quotes, unless American standards of goofy are different. You could defintely tell she was a Harvard Educated woman.

She would talk a lot about loving to get naked and being "an exibitionist" but she wouldn't do anything. One of her Housemates was an Ex-Porn star named Ron Jeremy and she developed a "Preston and Chantelle" like, realtionship with him even though she was engaged, or married, to someone else. She kept teasing that man the entire season and she told him if he got naked for her then she would flash him and when he did get naked for her she just totally backed out of what she said. The only time she got wild was when she was drunk. That's when she ran around trying to pull Ron Jermey's pants off and other crazy things.

I know on her website she wrote some letter saying that the TV show edited her to look like something she wasn't and that she was really bubbly and got along with everyone in real life but still She had to have done those things for it to be put in the show. But despite that, I still got the sense that she was a nice person, maybe a hypocrite when it came to being "an exhibitionist" but a nice person none the less.

The "American State" and those concerned with it are a bunch of corrupt murdering b*stards, however the "American People" are not necessarily to blame for all of this deprived as they are of any real news and brainwashed into saluting the "Flag" from their schooldays.

Just as the Soviet Union disintegrated so will the Empire of Evil and its torture camps.

I take exception to the post and intelligence levels. Basketball means didly squat here and thats a fact. Rodman is not our national hero. Its true so whats the problem. Traci comes across as vacuous. That is not to say we dont have out own vacuous celebs why is that anti American.? Apart from anything else Rodman showed his true colours tonight after wating it out for nearly two weeks. Thats not coz hes American its cos he is a disrespectful P..ck with an inexplicable loathing for cha and pre.
