TV switching itself off
Can anyone suggest any ideas, my tv has switched itself on to standby 3 times in the last few days.
Do you think it is its way of telling me I watch too much!

I had a (new) Sony that did that a few years back. Was told it was a 'safety feature' - the TV was turning off when too much static built up in the set. Apparently the mechanism to keep the static to safe levels had failed.
Had to get a replacement set. |

Sounds like a dry joint (intermittent bad contact on a solder joint on the circuit board). If you hit the case (not too hard) and it goes off then that is what the problem is.
Otherwise it could be a faulty chip that is affected by heat. If it keeps doing it regularly then it would be a good idea to get it checked by a TV repair place. If left it could cause damage to other components on the circuit board. I have seen a TV which had burnt a hole in the circuit board because of sparking at the bad connection to a component. Although if it only happens occasionally it can sometimes be difficult for them to locate the fault. |

You haven't left the 'sleeptimer' in the active position (check set up menu on tv)?
