No YLD when unit left in standby...

Hi there,

I upgraded my DHD4000 with a 120Gb Maxtor drive a while ago. Since then I've experienced YLD's on a fairly frequent basis. The unit was very stable before the upgrade.

Then a couple of weeks ago my girlfriend pointed out that the box never YLD'd if it was in standby mode so since then we always make sure that we switch into standby before leaving the unit and we haven't had a YLD since.

Is this a known workaround to the problem or have we discovered something new?

Regards,
Richard

Not sure, but the only time my non-upgraded box yellow lights has been when it was accidentally left on at night so had to turn itself off for the EPG download ... That said, had a couple of odd crashes over night - each time the first night of a trip away so lost all the recordings scheduled ...

Since it is non-upgraded though, these are not full blown YLDs, a simple power cycle cures it ...

Me too. Mine is nine months old, unmodified.

My mate's also; one year old, unmodified.

Have never had a YLD [crosses fingers] and always put the unit on standby after watching it. Not conclusive proof, but would be interested to see if this is the case for others. If you experience the YLD on a regular basis, see if this makes it any better...

And yes - my box is modified (160GB HDD plus bigger fan).

I always put box in standby at night, but afraid I do get the occasional YLD - only once every two or three months though. (120Gb Seagate).

Putting it in standby might help, but certainly doesn't eradicate the problem completely.

Same ere. Modified w/Seagate Barrucuda 120Gb and occasional YLD - every 1-3 months or so.

For mine, the key seems to be to press the Menu button to display the initial menu on screen before putting the unit into standby. After 9 months of doing this nightly, I've never had a YLD - except on one of the 3 occasions when I forgot and put it into standby direct from the channel display, and I got a YLD. Before taking care to put the unit into standby overnight, I was getting YLD once every 3 weeks or so. (Unit has 160Gb disk upgrade installed).
