To be honest I thought the plane crash was very well done. It was done from a human point of view. That was the right way to do it. No soap, even in Britain, is going to have the budget to realistically crash a plane into the sea, either with effects or a real plane. I thought the plane crash episodes were excellent.
I watched Neighbours since day 1. Its early days were great, it sort of dipped until 1992 - 1994 and then it totally lost my interest until this year. I think its excellent now.
The acting is much improved - Neighbours always had great actors, however there were always weak ones... there areno really weak actors in the show now.
However what has really got me hooked again - beyond the increased tempo and pace, is that it is really developing some excellent multilayered characters. From devastated Harold, meglamaniac Paul, complicated Izzy and hilarious Janelle and the deep and interesting Susan/Karl saga. The simplistic and bland show has been relaced by a refreshingly edgy, less teenage oreintated show.
Neighbours is easy to take pot shots at... it is relatively cheap and does have duff moments still. But so does Corrie and EE is a series of duff moments since 2003. However the quality of Neighbours is up 100% on 5 years ago, and I actually think that the current episodes are the best in the shows 20+ years run.
I do hear that the new 2006 character Katya is dreadful, but other than that the future looks bright for Neighbours... axe it?? Why do that. If the BBC used the Channel 10 adverts for the show they could double its ratings!! why they didnt advertise the plane crash is beyond me!
