Time for this thread to be axed. Neighbours is getting stronger and stronger as time passes.

I had been watching Neighbours regularly since 1992 when I was six, but now I hardly watch it.

I think it's mainly because of that dreadful Izzy Hoyland. I can't stand the character or the actress who plays her. Every time I tune in, she's always there with that miserable pout.

I agree. There are many long-running shows that I really hate, but just because me and maybe a few others dislike the show, doesn't mean the millions of other people that watch it day in, day out should be stopped from watching it.

Neighbours isn't as big in Oz as it once was, and there was rumours of it moving to Five in the 6.30 slot and an omnibus of a weekend planned, which would be good. But it's been at 5.35 on One for as long as I can remember, and I hope that doesn't change.

I LOVE her! I think she was just what the soap needed to spice it up a bit and crank it up a notch. When you look back, Neighbours has never really had a bad-girl character - theyre always men! She makes a great bitch and her cat fights with Susan are always well worth watching!!

Its not crap at all. Its very light hearted and its something nice to sit down and watch. Sure things get a bit ridiculous at times, but thats Neighbours.

If you dont like it then dont watch it, you sound very much like Dickgherkin.

If it is supposed to be light hearted as you suggest ,they should leave drama alone the Plane crash was abysmal

Neighbours is great!! It is actually realistic coz soaps like EE and Corrie are always so depressing and over dramatic about everything. Neighbours is light - hearted and fun and characters actually have a laugh and most of the time their lives are happy. In other soaps the characters seem to have one terrible thing after another happen to them, but the truth is most people would rather see a bunch of people from the same street having a good life and dealing with the struggles the best they can. But for some reason some people actually enjoy seeing people suffer because it isn't real, but that doesn't mean it has to be depressing all the time!!

Micheala, the reason I like Neighbours is because of what you said. They aren't always miserable, and they can have great storylines without someone having to die, obviously the plane crash doesn't fit in here.

But like you said, they dont have one bad thing after another happening to them like in other soaps.

Thanks! I reckon that other soaps should become more like Neighbours and have the characters smile once in a while, they might get more ratings then!!

I didn't mean it was light hearted all the time! The plane crash wasn't that bad. Its just a matter of opinion.

How can anyone say the plane crash was done poorly. Just because they didnt show it crash doesnt mean it was poor. What about the aftermath?

To be honest I thought the plane crash was very well done. It was done from a human point of view. That was the right way to do it. No soap, even in Britain, is going to have the budget to realistically crash a plane into the sea, either with effects or a real plane. I thought the plane crash episodes were excellent.

I watched Neighbours since day 1. Its early days were great, it sort of dipped until 1992 - 1994 and then it totally lost my interest until this year. I think its excellent now.

The acting is much improved - Neighbours always had great actors, however there were always weak ones... there areno really weak actors in the show now.

However what has really got me hooked again - beyond the increased tempo and pace, is that it is really developing some excellent multilayered characters. From devastated Harold, meglamaniac Paul, complicated Izzy and hilarious Janelle and the deep and interesting Susan/Karl saga. The simplistic and bland show has been relaced by a refreshingly edgy, less teenage oreintated show.

Neighbours is easy to take pot shots at... it is relatively cheap and does have duff moments still. But so does Corrie and EE is a series of duff moments since 2003. However the quality of Neighbours is up 100% on 5 years ago, and I actually think that the current episodes are the best in the shows 20+ years run.

I do hear that the new 2006 character Katya is dreadful, but other than that the future looks bright for Neighbours... axe it?? Why do that. If the BBC used the Channel 10 adverts for the show they could double its ratings!! why they didnt advertise the plane crash is beyond me!

You really are getting on my nerves today. Grow up for christ sake. What are you, 10 years old?

Criticising Neighbours, an excellent programme which is better than any other soap in my opinion and calling that Bradley boy a 'minger' and starting a new thread just to say it.

Perhaps you should stop posting crap on the forums and watch your Bad Girls DVD's instead

Neighbours will never be axed it beats all the other competition for it's timeslot and it's going from strength to strength and people laugh in Neighbours properly, it's fun unlike DeadEnders

Agree. The show is also sold around the world and is sucessful in many places.

I actually think it is very strong right now and the BBC should advertise it... build some interest. The plane crash was the first time the show was mentioned in ages at work... mainly because people kinda forgot about the show... now they are getting hooked all over again!!

Nice to know that someone agrees with me, so the Plane Crash wasn't as realistic in your eyes for the incredibly low budget it did well

Great, another poster who uses these boards to insult soaps and call for them to be axed

And how dare you insult two great soap opera's!
