We've made a few tweaks to the layout of things over at www.toppy.org.uk with the intention of making it easier for new users to find some of the information that might not have been so easily visible before, including the TAPs library, software downloads, guides and FAQs.

I'd welcome any feedback from people; there are still more things we're planning to make it even more helpful to new users.

Personally on first glance, I think the past threads about issues on old firmware are a bit pointless unless there are people that HAVE to remain on an older firmware for TAP compatibility ??

Is there a prob that I haven't seen why some people would not want to up their firmware to the latest?

There's not, but you'd be surprised how many people are still on older versions. Perhaps they have computer issues, or just don't find it convenient to move their Toppy to the computer.

According to the database, of people who've set their preferences to indicate, almost 12% are still using the very first UK firmware, despite there being nine publicly available downloads since then. And in the case of the original firmware, it's not compatible with many TAPs, and lacks bookmark functions, so there are pretty good reasons to update.

That said, the majority (52%) are actually using the most recent firmware, or the one immediately preceding it.

that's wat I found a little overwhelming at first that there so many problems listed - you don't know whether it applies to latest firmware or not

I still don't know whether there are known bugs associated with the latest firmware for instance

The public bugs list only shows issues that are marked as unresolved, which means that they apply to the current firmware.

If you're a registered forum user, you can a list of issues by firmware, which will also indicate for any particular one whether or not it's resolved in a future update, and you can browse by functions affected, like playback, interactive or Pay TV.

We added an extra page to the software library yesterday, which summarises the firmwares that are available to download, which you'll find at www.toppy.org.uk/downloads/firmware.php

From the forums, if you choose Bug and Features lists from the Services for registered users menu, you'll be able to compare bugs by firmware.

I had 110% no idea you could filter it based on firmware version. I think I've clicked on this page before and just clicked out of it as it didn't show any bugs.

I have just visited that page and thought why it's asking me for my user name and password when I'm autologged in on the forum part.

Maybe you should highlight this area of the site a bit more ?

It must be a nightmare

We've overhauled the site navigation this weekend, with new nav bars on all the pages. And for regular users, there's even an option to turn them off and just have text based options.

And this weekend, we've added a search system, so you can search through the text of FAQs, and the descriptions of guides, taps, news items and links, which should make things a little more straightforward.

There's also a new database for the Where to buy page, so you can get a little more information about places that sell Toppys.
