Herz
I'm thinking of taking my VCR to Canada with me when I emigrate later this year - mainly because it's fairly new and I've still got a few tapes I don't want to get shut of.
Now I know about NTSC/PAL and so I'll take a small British telly, and I'll be using a step-up transformer. The only thing I'm concerned about is the Herz difference. Here we run on 50 Hz, in North America it's 60 Hz. Will this make any difference to my VCR's performance? |

The mains frequency 60Hz vs 50Hz won't make any difference, it will work fine with a voltage converter (autotransformer).
You will be able to play your tapes fine, but most likely will not be able to record from Canadian TV (NTSC 60Hz) or play tapes bought there. You should be able to connect the VCR to a Canadian TV, as it should be able to display the 50Hz PAL playback signal from the video. By the way it is Hertz (not Herz) after Mr. Hertz. |
