I don't understand why some people think Pete is intelligent.

i'm think myself as averagely intelligent, and english isn't my first language....i know what that means and it doesn't make me highly intelligent.

He doesn't look so clever when he's trying to manoeuvre food through his large lips.

As usual..........yet another thread asking for specific examples of PB's intelligence sinks without a trace.

Well I wonder why that is? Nice chorus of booing that Pete got by the way

The clips they showed when he was propounding on different subjects weren't intelligent or witty.

It's because he says he's intelligent that people just automatically believe him.

Chantelle is intelligent in lots of different respects but she is poorly educated.

Use of the word 'repugnant' doesn't actually qualify someone as an intellectual in my book.
IMO, he's very much like GG - he speaks with supreme confidence, his delivery/timing of speech is excellent & he knows a few long words.
That's about it!!! There is a huge difference between being a good Orator & being particularly intelligent.
Both he & GG demonstrated their inability to be consistent in thinking, to develop a logical argument & to think laterally. PB says 'he likes to make people think' - that's a laaarf! Both were just vitriolic & accomplished at bitching about people & spitting out venom - they came over as nasty, arrogant & biggoted.
They were also unable to assess a situation & react appropriately i.e. they had no sense of perspective.
Not really the ingredients of 'intellectualism' or a high level of intelligence.

Although we all laughed at Chantelle's lack of General Knowledge & vocabulary - she, at least, did demonstrate more perspective & logic then either of them. Ironically, she was also a much better communicator.

... isn't it much the same thing as sh*t-shovelers thinking coal-miners are clean?

Anyone can read a thesaurus and claim to be a genius.

I'd rather listen to someone interesting talking in words of one syllable than a complete ass with a high opinion of himself.

Plus, I always thought that most (if not all) of Pete's 'witty' comments were well used and well rehearsed by him.

Some people are so bitter, aren't they? Pete is clearly intelligent. He was the most intelligent person in that house bar none. His emotional intelligence matched his intellectual intelligence.

OK then. Apart from his use of language, what other examples of Pete's genius do you have?

Emotional intelligence? I saw a sad lost soul who has separated himself from normal warm human interaction and whose arid cynicism looks set to condemn him to a sad and lonely old age, masked by the circle of sycophantic hangers on who continue to tell him what a genius he really is.

I've never claimed Pete was intelligent - I just liked him best out of the housemates - thats my choice

Are there any examples of Pete's wit? A "quotes" thread, perhaps?

I ask because the ones in his "best bits" VT weren't very impressive. The best ones were quotes, and even he seemed to think they must have searched hard to find them.

One I did like was they must have hatched her (Chantelle) from an egg, and I'm assumning it's not a quote; but he doesn't seem to come up with anything that good very often. Insulting put-downs could just be ones he's used before, perhaps recombined (similar to the way people can produce combinations of swear words) rather than being fully spontaneous.

I liked it (loved it) when he went on about how he had "high principles" about word usage i.e. not using "love" when you mean "like". It's good to know that someone like Pete is battling so hard on this vital issue. He obviously has a well-attuned sense of what is important.

LMAO!! Owning a dictionary and stealing quotes willy-nilly from a variety of gay icons does NOT a genius make.

Yeah, whatever Dr Freud. I think the fact that he has managed to sustain two long-term relationships and still gets on with his ex-wife rather gives the lie to your pedestrian "analysis".

*sigh*

Ok, so he can hold a down a long-term relationship. That makes him loyal, it doesn't make him intelligent. I'm (we're) still waiting for proof of that.

Clever certainly - to quote him "like a gutter-snipe" - intelligence is completely different, intelligence, as I understand it, is about the ability to think laterally or creatively, to have an openess to learning from one's mistakes, to be mutable - open to change and development and open minded. I have no doubt he has a good IQ - but for me it's how one uses it - that is key IMO. If one uses ones cognitive abilities and potential to improve one's ability to psychologically, potentially destroy someone, to never turn one's mind power to true self-awareness (only use the language of it) or be so fixed in one's opinions it becomes rampant belligerence is not, IMO, a mark of intelligence.

A friend of mine remembers him from the gay clubs in Blackpool in the 80's and said they recalled him having a reputation for being difficult and bitchy back then!

From what I saw PB seemed completely asleep to himself, often projecting his own faults onto others and contradicting himself often. I thought statements like - I tell the truth - were particularly lacking in the presence or active intelligence, an intelligent person would understand - 'the truth as I see it'.

IMO he came across as socially, psychologically and intellectually lazy! I don't think he really engaged with anyone - same with GG. I think he was continually on the defensive, which suggest to me a very vulnerable human being - I thought the continual bitching, shit-stirring and repeated statements about not caring, being tough, I can take it (methinks the lady doth protest too much!) bordred on obsessive neurosis, though the situation seemed to induce and intensify feelings of paranoia and bring out the various foibles of the HMs.

I don't think his vocabulary was anything special, particularly.

If the abitity to make a quick reposte is all you need to demonstrate intelligence....then Stephen Hawkins must be thick as f***!
