Get with it!

BTW: Fern means 'television'. Fernsehen means 'to watch television'.

'Ich sehe fern.': 'I watch TV.'
Fernsehen means, literally, "far seeing" or "distance seeing". It also means television or to watch television. Fern = far or distant e.g. Fern Ost = far east. Therefore, Ich sehe fern = I see far whereas Ich fernsehe = I (am)watch(ing) television.

Beejay is right. If you think about it the word Television is the same, Tele is Greek for far (i.e. Telescope) (and Fern means distant) and vision is to see/ sehen.

Sorry about all the brackets.

'Ich sehe fern.' is still correct though. I've always been told to say it that way. Must be a language difference.

Ah a Brumichum, as they say in the land of ARD.

Did you hear the one about the chap fishing in one of Birminghams canals ,he shouted (in Brummie) ive caught a whale, but through the whale back, why did yow throw the whale back, said his mate.
Brummie said because the whale is now use without the rest of the bike. (now read no in brummie)

An old one, but thanks for the translation. I went to Dudley Zoo in the early forties,Brum is big seems to go from Wolverhampton to London, I also lived in Rhyl 1950 to 1973,the holiday makers made me smile,Deek Chair please, I knew when it was Longbridge fortnight.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blackcountry/fe...ents/a_b.shtml

We have a whole section of the BBC site dedicated to the Midlands accent. Im easy to recognise in the Borders - Ive got the broadest Walsall accent for dozens of miles around. The kids in the school I workk in still sometimes have problems when my accent broadens out a bit - despite a dozen years here I havent lost my lurvely accent

Ich sehe fern = I watch/am watching/do watch TV.
Ich fernsehe can only be used in a relative osr subordinate clause. This is because the verb fernsehen is a separable verb.

well if you are trying to get in the premier league i have just been relegated to the pepsi cola league, I have just taken in a big dish, otherwise some of them channels were good on 7w, as far as city 7 tv is concerned they had some good old stuff on with no arab wording running along the bottom of the tv
