It's fine on my Fortec Star - If I power down or spend time viewing elsewhere, it always remembers the last Audio track used: Spring is coming - maybe you need a new toy...!

I bought my Echostar AD3000 because I need its Analogue capability to receive Eurosport International (19.2 E). As I've posted in another thread, I believe the only FTA Digital Eurosport is in German. That's no use to me.

I'll have to consult deeper into the Echostar manual to see if I can somehow tell it to remember the right audio track.

Yes, it is an odd foible - I don't know what the "norm" is with regard to default Audio............

Actually, I've just had a thought.

In "User Preferences", I have an option to prioritise the order on which available Lingos are presented.

No doubt you have a similar option, somewhere - worth tinkering with?

Unless the audio on TCM English is labeled as "unknown" or something.

Another idea might be to store the channel manually with the audio pids set for the English audio, assuming you can do that on your receiver.

On screen the English audio is labelled L and R.
I checked in User Options, and nothing in there will overcome the problem.

I could try that, I think there is a facility to do that in ADVANCED INSTALLATION. How would I know the value to input?

SID 164
VPID 164
APID (English) 97

Any problems, use leading zeros to make up 4 digit data.

This is what was displayed on the appropriate page in my ADVANCED INSTALLATION pages.

Video PID 164
Audio PID 96
PCR PID 164

I changed 96 to 97, but it has had no effect.

Interesting - the 96 is the Spanish APID.

I really don't know what's going on - unfortunately I'm not acquainted with your Box.

When I do an Advanced Search (mine calls it User Channel), it can be a faff pushing the right buttons to get it to scan for the manually input PIDS rather than ignoring them and scanning the TP.

Sorry I can't help further.

The Echo is a funny box - it will happily give you multiple sound tracks on the channels where transmitted, but if you go to edit the audio pids, it only gives you one number (either the lowest pid, or possibly the English pid where used)

Anyway to edit a pid, go menu 6,6,1 and find the frequency used by the tv channel you are interested in. Then find the channel move left or right to find the actual channel, and edit away.Press the ok (? - its the one in the middle of the handset) button twice and it will store the new settings.

That's the procedure I followed earlier. I changed the audio PID to from 96 to 97, the value Rai Man gave for the english audio.
I pressed OK twice, and then.....
No change. I still get the Spanish soundtrack as default when I switch on.

Make sure the default language is set to English. (Deep in the menu somewhere)
You should be able to toggle between the languages using the "speaker icon" on the handset

If you select TCM on screen, change to the English Audio, then press your Info (or similar) button, you can verify the PIDs.

Unfortunately, I'm sure the APID I gave you is correct - alas it appears not to help!

Echos arent that advanced. If you want to know the pids you have to go into the setup menus!

I thought my Fortec Star wasn't very advanced, but now I think it's IBM!

I checked the language settings, which are in the User Settings Menu. The Main Audio language and 2nd. Audio language are both set to English.
The speaker button does indeed toggle between languages, so when watching LIVE there's no problem. However I can't use the timer.
A couple of nights ago I tried leaving the receiver on overnight having selected the English soundtrack before going to bed. I set my HDD recorder to record 2010, and..... it was in Spanish. So it would seem that my receiver reverts to the Spanish after each film.
As you said, Analoguesat....
The Echo is a funny box, but I do need its analogue capability.

I have a horrible feeling that the moment a solution to my difficulty is found, the channel will encrypt

Spanish second time!!!!

Thats not surprising though. The English soundtrack is not defined as "Eng" so the box wont track it. Its just an alternative soundtrack.

Remember the Echos are getting on a bit now, and the software isnt as clever as modern receivers.

Live with it and manually reset it when you channel hop. Life is far too short to worry about such things.

Mnaually setting up a new channel on that tp with settings:

vpid 164
apid97

works fine and I get just the English track
