Has anyone tried to watch the Hello package on a Sky HD box? I keep getting no channels found instead of no signal found. Other DVB-S MPEG2 channels on EB9A can be saved and watched.

I'm getting no signal at all on those transponders. They may be lower power than others on the satellite.

I think your problem may be because the Hello channels are DVB S2. I am watching Filmbox HD now on my Technomate.

Not that I know a lot about Sky HD boxes but the Hello package uses DVB-S2 (8PSK) and Sky uses DVB-S2 (QPSK)

A small difference but could be the cause anyone else with a SKY HD box confirm ?

I am using a CGV TNTHD Sat box which for the French stations also uses DVB-S2 (8PSK)

Last night, I re-aligned my dish which had dropped a little since the cold weather started and was able to scan the channels. Sadly, the signal quality seemed just too low to avoid heavy motion artefacts (except on the Nickelodeon cartoons!) And yet, the 3D TV promo which is also on S2-8PSK seems OK at about the same Quality reading. I've not had channels break up at that level before. Unless there's something funny about the encoding...

Also, the promo channel is still OK this morning, though the Hello muxes are gone again.

Not sure it helps but in Brussels, Belgium I get 99% Level & 66% quality, split screen with Discovery HD Showcase & a Component dvb-s TVB Junior.

North East Scotland - 1 metre dish. As I speak the stations are breaking up in heavy cloud.

Satbeams predicts my 65cm dish should be OK for Aberdeen and my location (Glasgow). I suppose the weather isn't helping, but the dish size prediction doesn't hold too well for transponders of this type.

I've been reading that 8PSK permits greater channel capacity than QPSK (hence all those HD channels) but has a higher bit error rate for the same power/noise. It's probably not helping that those transponders are using higher bit rates and 3/4 coding rather than the 2/3 of the one in-between carrying the 3D promo, which can still be received. The fading and quality measurement must be much worse.

I'll go back and try again when the weather clears.

This thread is always pretty handy for finding good stuff, but recently I've wondered if there could perhaps be another thread of these FTA gems. It might take a while to sift through all 67 pages - plus many are only temporary FTA, so are out of date by the time you get to read them.

Perhaps someone could set up a Wikipedia page or something, of full time FTA gems. Eg. ones showing English programming on a regular basis, or FTA sport/music channels that are worth watching.

Tonight, I've found a number of channels on 26E that show English movies or shows with Arabic subtitles. I think Dubai TV was one, ABC something or other, plus a version of Nickelodeon on there. Gem TV on 13E and TNT on 42E also show English language stuff too.

Any thoughts?

Thanks. Yeah, I do check both sites now and again, but just wondered if maybe we could somehow be able to filter out the current 'gems' from the 1000's of crap FTA channels...

Wish I'd got a HD receivier when I upgraded now... Seems to be a bit of free HD knocking about at the moment.

Also for movie lovers, there's Movie 1 on 13E. Seems to have American movies with (Arabic?) subtitles. The framerate is horrible though. Pure strobe-o-vision.

It's on 11200V, 27.500, 5/6.
