Are we sure that the person who wrote Barrymore's story didn't just conclude for him/herself that because Chantelle got 56.4, he must have got 44.6? Maybe that's incorrect.

It seems to me that she would have won much like Nadia did, with about 56% of the total vote.

I might be wrong. But as I say... If you use the word "landslide" that's what it suggests.

Are you sure the person who wrote these hasn't just assumed he got 43.6 because he/she heard what Chantelle got, and is as confused as us?

It just seems much more likely to me, based on the polls, that Chantelle had a Nadia like lead over all of them.

Quite what it matters I don't know.

Say you had 6,000,000 votes cast (it was closer to 8million for BB2005 Final) - 56% is 3,360,000 whilst 44% is 2,640,000 - Chantelle would have had 720,000 more votes than Michael, so that could be classed as a landslide.

It's highly unlikely though they had 6 million votes for just two people, and the less votes there are for the two, the closer that gap is.

It may well be correct - Perhaps Michael did get that many votes, but I'm struggling to believe that the majority of polls had Chantelle with over 40%, and sometimes nearing 50%, she didn't just have a Nadia like lead the whole time.

Hmmm.. I'm thinking that the 56% is the differennce between Chantelle's 29.4% and Barrymore's 22.73.. ie the total equalling 52.13%. If this figure was expressed as 100% then Chantelle would've got 56%. But I don't have a usable calculator handy!

but the polls would not account for when a person has been evicted, that persons fanbase may then vote for someone else....the polls were before the evictions began...

You're right

29.4 / (29.4 + 22.73) = 56.397%

So Michael wasn't really all that far behind her

I always have my calculator handy

So, of all votes cast since the voting started, we're agreed the figures were:

29.4% chantelle
22.73% barrymore
16.02% maggot
13.67% preston
12.88% pete
5.3% traci

It wasn't such a huge win for Chantelle then, which is good in my book. The 6.67% between her and Michael would have been even closer most likely if there had been less than 6 housemates left. Interesting

I didn't particularly support Chantelle, I don't particularly support all of her ideals, but now I'm kind of glad she won as it seems to have wound the class-snobs up so much!

When I hear the word "chav" I think of the scum who hang around on the streets shouting abuse at passers by, attacking people who happen to look at them the wrong way, breaking into people's cars/houses and so on. Have we seen any evidence of Chantelle falling into this category? It seems to be that Chantelle has been tagged with this label more than anything for being what would traditionally be described as working-class.

Someone defined chav as "council house and vulgar". First of all do we know that Chantelle even grew up in a council house? Secondly, even if she did, how does that make her automatically vulgar? She's not the brightest of people, but she still comes across as a pleasent person. I have a friend who grew up in a council house and is about to finish his PHD. How many of the arrogant labellers around these boards have accomplished that? (yes, I'm sure there'll be one or two, but the vast majority of people will not have).

I wasn't brought up on a council estate, but I'd much rather live next door to Chantelle's family than some of the people on this board who have shown themselves to be truly vulgar individuals.

We know, we were just wondering what the 56.4% and 43.6% figures meant

Indeed, and had the Chantelle 'alternative' been more obvious she may have lost out to Michael that way. I was very surprised at his eventual popularity and admit that I'd have voted for him to prevent Chantelle snatching the win had I known. Ho hum!

I agree completely. Chantelle is more typically 'Essex Girl' and certainly not my experience of Chav.
