I didn't particularly support Chantelle, I don't particularly support all of her ideals, but now I'm kind of glad she won as it seems to have wound the class-snobs up so much!
When I hear the word "chav" I think of the scum who hang around on the streets shouting abuse at passers by, attacking people who happen to look at them the wrong way, breaking into people's cars/houses and so on. Have we seen any evidence of Chantelle falling into this category? It seems to be that Chantelle has been tagged with this label more than anything for being what would traditionally be described as working-class.
Someone defined chav as "council house and vulgar". First of all do we know that Chantelle even grew up in a council house? Secondly, even if she did, how does that make her automatically vulgar? She's not the brightest of people, but she still comes across as a pleasent person. I have a friend who grew up in a council house and is about to finish his PHD. How many of the arrogant labellers around these boards have accomplished that? (yes, I'm sure there'll be one or two, but the vast majority of people will not have).
I wasn't brought up on a council estate, but I'd much rather live next door to Chantelle's family than some of the people on this board who have shown themselves to be truly vulgar individuals.
