I didn't watch a single show - and proud of it

So, another Big Brother is over.

And I'm very proud to say that I didn't watch a single episode of a single show this time - and this is someone who watched BB3, 4 and 5 very frequently, and also posted on here too (under another name).

Amongst all the lively threads of discussion and debate - I would, for a change, like to devote this thread to all those people who just couldn't give a monkeys about it anymore.

And I bet there are a lot of them as well.

Perhaps it's something to do with age - I'm 31 now. When Big Brother first appeared in 2000 I was 25 years old, and it had an appeal for me.

Not anymore.

It feels so good to be free, and that I do not have to be compelled to watch it anymore.

I've grown out of this show that I'm surprised ever made it on to a public-service channel.

Three cheers for NOT watching TV. Hip hip hooray !

Three cheers for being sat in front of a computer monitor commenting about a show that you didn't watch and are not interested in. Hmmm

Quite a lot of them actually. My entertainment comes from surfing the 'Net and watching DVDs these days.

The only thing I've watched the whole of this week was 10 Years Younger.

And yet you felt compelled to come into a BB forum to mention that you dont watch it?

Glad to see you are moving on from the crass that is BB, in search of higher ground.

Ha ha. I guess I'm just playing devil's advocate a little.

I used to like the show though, I really did. But it's had it's day.

Once you've seen one Big Brother, you've really seen them all.

The producers have tried to vary it each time, but it's always the same show recycled and passed off as entertainment.

This is just my opinion, of course, of Big Brother. Which is valid on a discussion forum about, er, Big Brother.

Well bully for you... <yawn>

I certainly wouldn't bother boring people with a list of the TV programmes I don't watch.

I don't think I'll bother to post my comments onto their forums either

Well said, why tell people you don't watch it and also what's the point of posting when it's about something you don't watch.

Normally I wouldn't do that. But there's a crucial difference.

During BB3, I was so hooked that I had the live stream turned on for most of the day.

Now THAT was sad.

But, for the first time in six years I've been able to go without watching a single show.

Kind of like someone coming off hard drugs and wanting to share their achievement for doing so.

So, remember - it can be done! I am proof !

If you don't watch it then what's the point of posting??

This could be fun. I'll make a list of all the things I haven't done in the last 23 days and then you lot can talk about it.

Then I write to ITV to tell then that I don't watch Coronation Street. Then I'll e-mail George Lucas to tell him that I don't like Star Wars films and then...

Aerology - Why not go the whole hog and remove the TV altogether?
- Cold turkey... just like boxing day all over again!

ps. This is the only BB I have ever watched.
- Oh how I wish I'd shoved my two-penneth onto the forums back then!

I would like to tell you that I am really enjoying not watching Casualty on a Saturday night. I haven't seen it now for at least a year and although it hasn't had a major effect on my physical and mental health as yet, I continue to keep a diary to monitor any changes just in case. I am considering setting up a blog to let the world now about my non-Casualty watching experiment and perhaps may apply for a grant to take this research further. I'll keep you posted. Or not.

I gave up.............. after a couple of days and have only watched the E4 coverage fleetingly. Does that permit me to comment?

I fear I shall be joining the OP fairly soon.

But couldnt you say that about most forms of media never mind tv shows.
Formats change but the basic root principles are in place in every forum, every newspaper, every film, every tv show etc.

As for entertainment,thats very subjective.
Several million watch the show and are entertained enough to vote or debate the show.
It may not entertain you but it clearly does entertain many.

I would just like to take this opportunity to say that I've never watched newsnight...ever......what a fantastic opportunity we've been given on this thread....

*goes off to think what other shows I don't watch*

I watched them going in on the first night and wondered where the real celebrities were. Chantelle wasn't the only non-celebrity.........I had never heard of Dennis, Traci, Preston or Maggot in my life before. I gave up watching it very quickly.......I couldn't understand a word that Dennis said and the botched cosmetic surgery on Jodie and Traci's faces made me want to gag.

I think it's far more "hip" NOT to watch BB, while claiming that you do - Just like George Galloway, Germaine Greer, politicians, newspaper and TV pundits...
