HDMI or Component.
I've just bought a Sony KFDE50A12U 50" HD TV (Phew!!)
It's got a HDMI slot. I now need to get a decent DVD Recorder and home cinema system.(Budget 300-350) I've spent many hours searching the net and am a little confused. I'd like an all in one recorder system but most dont have HDMI ports. There are recorders with hdmi slots, but I'd have to save for a seperate speaker system. Is the picture quality of hdmi over component worth the extra outlay? |

Not really. There are low-price players with excellent component output (Pioneer 585) and there are low price players with ropey HDMI performance (LG,Toshiba,Sony).
Save your cash and wait for true HD devices to hook onto the HDMI socket. FYI, I have a Panasonic S97 hooked onto Panny PHD8 plasma. HDMI output is good, but not always better than component. |

I bet the difference might be smaller than the difference between PAL and RGB, to use that analogy. I will be in a position to give a definative, if subjective, opinion soon when my Pace HD-1000 arrives. |

I've just visited my local Sony independent and he's advised waiting until the end of Feb when Sony are releasing all new equipment, all of which will have a HDMI port!
Why isn't life simple. |
