Ah, excellent thread as I am looking at FreeTalk as a possibility, and it does seem to be winning over Vonage with potential problems with my cable modem.

Only think I don;t like about FreeTalk, is the talk of Unlimited as it isn't. Hidden away in a support post it says "For local and national calls which exceed 60 minutes, the proceeding minutes will be billed at 2p per minute." which surely means it isn't unlimited? If you make a lot of long calls then it's going to incur costs which don't seem to be pointed out prominently.

I do like the idea I can pop down to any Dixons groups tore and buy one tho (and take it back if it fails to work).

I have just purchased a freetalk adaptor from the link. A little problem setting up, however, the main problem is that if I ring my freetalk phone number from my home (BT) line, I get the following message:

"This Service is No Longer available"

If I dial from my easymobile mobile phone, I can get through.
I rang BT, the operator managed to get through, although the faults department couldn't get through.
Some mobiles are unable to get through, Vodafone being one.
I tried to call Customer Support, you just get a recorded message saying that the department is being upgraded, either leave a message or go to www.freetalk.co.uk, the message box is full and unable to accept any more messages, and no replies to emails.
Can anyone help please?

One thing on the packaging that confused me, when I looked at it today, were the equiptment connection requirements.

It seemed to be suggesting that if you didn't have a proper router, you needed to connect your cable modem to your PC via USB rather than ethernet. I had thought that the supplied device had another ethernet port for plugging in your PC.

I was also looking at Vonage, but it seemed that you had to pay for an extra virtual number, if you wanted a lcoal dialling code whereas the freetalk main number can be set up as a local dialling code.

I have a USB broadband modem, a Thomson Speedtouch 330, and I have to connect freetalk box via an RJ45 port.

I paid £9.99 at THE LINK yesterday.

My Motorola Speedtouch 4100 connects to my PC via ethernet. I wouldnlt want to use USB anyway as it slows things down too much (esp as I have an old PC and USB modem would require CPU time).
