A little EPG trick (for Sky users)

If like me you keep forgetting to turn Sky to Eurosport before you go to bed or are recording something late into the night try the following.

Choose any Eurosport prog. on the EPG and press RED for record.
Press Timer Rec and alter the timing to 15ish minutes before you EPG is due to start and make the recording 1 minute. If you're really keen you can rename the program DELETE so you can spot the recordings at the end of the week and kill'em off.
Change the frequency of the recording to Daily
Job done. You're now on the right channel for the EPG to happen..
Not 100% sure If this works yet as i've only just set it up by the theory is sound.

In my experience, after the initial EPG setup, Guide Plus changes channel to Eurosport itself for subsequent updates. No need to leave it on Eurosport overnight. What model of recorder do you have - perhaps some don't do it. Minei s a 630H-S.

I get home from work at night and the Sky box is always mysteriously on Eurosport regardless of what I left it on the previous night!

Edit: the penny's just dropped - you haven't got the infra-red link?

Got a 530 (with an Infa red link). Was speaking to a Pionner support guy during the week and he said you had to manually change channel (which is backed up by the manual). Quized him about it as it seemed a bit crap that the box could change channel for recording but not EPG updating and he said 'that's the way it is'...

Well, I can only say that my 630 does it on its own! When you first set it up, yes, you have to set it to Eurosport manually because at that point it doesn't know where it's going to get the EPG data from. But after that, it's OK.

Try it and see! Leave it on BBC1 tonight and see what it's on tomorrow morning.

I don't think the manual does say that you have to leave it on Eurosport for subsequent downloads, only the first one when you first set it up.

theoretically it's spose to know where to find the host channel for updating - in practice it doesn't always (mine doesn't), so some have to be set manually to the host channel - and hence why some users say their epg wont update

Think mine is one of the one that doesn't. Just let the EPG start time go past whilst watching Sky, it didn't change channel and the Pioneer has gone into EPG mode.

Wonder If it's a S/W ver. issue?

Wouldn't it be easier to set your Sky box to autoview something at about midnight on Eurosport, and then use Series link to make sure it flicks over every night?

My DVR 530-H used to switch the Sky box to Eurosport by itself and then one day it completely stopped and has never done it since.

Would love to know why!

I tend to record a lot of programs late night where possible (Spooks, The District, films) and series link them where applic. to allow me to watch the odd programs that is not repeated eg. House on Ch.5. Eurosport goes off air at 2am and back at 7.30, my EPG update starts at 6.30am so idea doesn't really work for me.

Are you aware of the HDDr option that will allow you to overwrite the previous recording. It is pretty good for this sort of item, although you should not have to use it in this scenario.

Am now Read about HDDr and instantly forgot about it as I thought I'd never use it but...

i wouldn't recommend recordings of '1 minute' - this is likely to fragment your drive - in fact i think the blocks are a minimum of 5 or maybe as much as 10 minutes each

Been doing it for the last month at one minute. Also set the system to HDDr so it uses the same space every day.
