Richard Hawley
I've just come across Richard Hawley for the first time this evening on the South Bank Awards Show. They played part of his song The Ocean, and I was quite knocked by it.
He has an incredible deep voice that's reminiscent of Roy Orbison and Scott Walker, and his songwriting is very romantic and nostalgic. The Ocean is a really beautiful song... I'd recommend almost anyone to listen to it, regardless of what you usually like. It's from his 2005 album Coles Corner, which is his fourth solo album, so I'm fairly surprised I haven't heard of him before. What do other people think of Richard Hawley? He's yet another Sheffield lad doing great stuff, but of course Sheffield is the centre of the musical universe ATM
. A former member of Pulp. Album is well worth a listen.

Haven't bought an album yet, don't know why because the track 'Coles Corner' sent shivers down my spine.
Fantastic song. Heard the new single on Jonathan Ross' show on Saturday and liked that as well. |
