Guide Plus with NTL Pace STB?

I'm planning on getting a Pioneer DVR-RT601H-S DVD/HDD recorder, which has an the electronic program guide (EPG) Guide Plus+. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this can connect to my NTL Cable Pace STB to get program listings and to change the channel etc... I've heard that some models aren't compatible but I'm not sure.

I'm not quite certain of the model of the STB, but it's about 2 years old and has a blue remote with silver buttons on the side. I think it might be Pace 4010.

Thanks very much

I have no problems with Guideplus and my NTL Pace box. However, some versions of the box use a non-standard set of infrared codes, so you might have to get a redeye converter

Looking at that website, it seems as if the blue remotes will be OK, while the black remotes need the converter.

Hi Chimpy!
Glad to see took my advice from the other forum.
The Pioneer website quotes that model as having G-Link so it should control your STB.

From your description it sound like a pace 4000 series box which uses standard RC5 codes for the remote control - and thus does not need a 'redeye' converter.

Read the other threads on this forum to get more info.

Try THIS ONE - there is much info around but you must do some work yourself!

Thanks- yeah, I've been reading around, and it seems like it should work fine.

The trouble now is finding somewhere that will deliver a unit to my work! Most places only deliver to the registered cardholders address.... but that's another topic completely.

Cheers.

This is a real pain - but understandable really for security reasons. You will have a hard time finding somewhere who will accept online or telephone orders and despatch to a different address.

My solution was to get a credit card specifically for online purchases and register it at my work address. But I did that around 3 years ago...I think card issuers these days will only accept a residential address. I tried it with my new Sky Card over the weekend but was told that somecustomers are not honest enough to inform them when they change their work address!

Well I got it all set up last night. It seems I need a red-eye adapter as when I pick my external reciever (NTL Langley) in the Guide plus setup, the only option is for Pace (Red Eye). Another £30...

One thing I'm slightly concerned about is the picture quality through the unit. I have a scart cable going from my STB to one of the AVs in the Pioneer, and another scart going from the pioneer to the TV. Watching TV with the recorder switched on, or watching a recording, the screen seems to slightly pulse green every few seconds. It's not immediately obvious but quite noticable on images of faces.

Try it without Red Eye first - it might just work... (The machine will try a large number of different codes, until it gets the correct one. If you can see the display on the NTL changing at all, then you're not going to need a red-eye - simply wait until it gets round to the right codes.)

I presume that you know which or NTL Langley and NTL Bromley is correct for you...

Could it be a dodge SCART connection?

On the guide plus setup, theres only one option for NTL Langley (which I'm on), which is PACE(RED-EYE). I tried picking NTL Bromley but, although it changed a channel in the test, it doesn't work either.

I'm thinking it might be an issue with my NTL box rather than my pioneer.

I think the bad picture quality/green pulses is probably related to old crappy TV rather than the recorder.

From memory, I've got my set-up as PACE(RED-EYE), but in fact the red-eye adapter is not needed.

As a guide, if BBC1 is on channel 101 you need NTL Langley. If BBC1 is on channel 1 you need NTL Bromley.

Well it all just started working one night, although it took around a week to get listings. I set it up as an "other" external reciever and have set all my channels manually. It changes channel fine (I bought a red eye adapter and I didn't need it- d'oh!).

It's weird how it just started working but i'm not complaining
