BSkyB announces its results tomorrow, so I'm hoping for a launch date announcement then. I sense it is getting closer.

Apparently Sky has announced further HD channels to be added to the EPG.
At the moment Sky Movies 9 and 10 (channels 311 and 312) are on the guide. They’ll be followed by HD channels for Sky Sports, Box Office and National Geographic on 7th February, and then Sky One, Box Office 2, Artsworld and Discovery on 14th February |

"Laughing off" rumours, as Stuff reports, is not the same as denying them.

Sky HD EPG Listings
I don't understand why Sky have chosen to list the new HD channels the way they have on HD boxes...
Why did Sky not simply replace SD channels with HD equivalents where applicable, and new channels added where applicable e.g. Sky One should be replaced by Sky One HD, Sky Movies 9 & 10 HD should replace Sky Movies 9 & 10 SD...i.e. on an HD box you shouldn't even see Sky One SD, Sky Movies 9 & 10 SD etc.. Sky can do this because they are able to replace BBC One, and ITV based upon postcode regions, so surely they could have replaced channels in the EPG based on whether or not you had an SD or HD box? I'll be putting my order in for an HD box as soon as possible, and I'd much prefer not to see the SD equivalents of HD channels listed at all... Glenn |

I'd like to see the SD channel, so I compare the difference between SD and HD. I reckon it will help the marketing in the stores too, to show how HD really improves things.

I think this is a really bad idea. As previously posted, Sky Movies 9 HD should be the HD replacement for Sky Movies 9 SD and both channels should not be available on the EPG. This is more apparent with channels like Sky One. Sky One HD on channel 197??
If the objective is to promote HD channels, where for example will BBC1 HD get it's EPG position? Would it not make sense to Sky in the short term to place HD channels in their own category eg Sky One HD on channel 706, Sky Sports HD on channel 707 etc. If the HD channels have to be broadcast on their EPG placeholder along with SD channels then there is no prospect of for example e4 HD until at least 2010 after analogue switchoff. |

You'll need a new Sky+ HD box. As to price and timescales we are at present in the dark.

I think its awful that they are still using the same crappy EPG. They had an opportunity here to make a much better looking EPG for HD customers, why not take it?

Limitations of the hardware in boxes circa 1998 perhaps? One of the good points about SKY hardware is that they still support the first gen boxes which are nearly 8 years old but of course that also means the OS is restricted to what those boxes can do and even know writing baseline software with box specific tweaks is full of pitfalls. It is a great shame the SKY+ and now the SKY+ HD didn't have a complete revamp but who is to say that the pictures we are seeing now are what the SKY+ HD OS will look like
