Hi

I have now received my Linksys WRT54GP2.

I think I have configured it OK, so I have put my sipgate details in and the admin page is saying that I am online.

I have a light on the phone line 1 on the router, but when I plug in my phone I get no dial tone and no power it seems. So I have plugged in a modem cable between the phone and the router, but notice that this only has 2 pins in the socket whereas the one I am replacing has 4 pins on the RJ11 side. I'm guessing that one of these provides the power.

Do I need a US > UK adapter like this:

I thought that I could get away with a modem cable, but maybe not. I have checked that the phone works off my landline.

Thanks

John

With the cable you are using you need to alter the pins the wires are connected to.

You could buy the RJ11 to BABT adaptor, but make sure you get one with ring capacitor as some UK only designed phones don't have a ring capacitor built in.

You could cut the one end off the RJ11 lead you have and wire it to a BABT master socket.

Pins 3&4 from the RJ11 to pins 2 & 5 on the BABT socket.

Have you tried the current cable you have the other way around, as it appears there are a few different ways these have been wired in the UK.

Thanks for your assistance BexTech.

Have tried that cable the other way around, but no joy. I have also just tried another modem cable, this has all 4 wires connected, and I tried it both ways around and that doesn't work either. I'll have to pick up an adaptor and see how that goes.

Will let you know how I get on.

Cheers
