Hi there everyone,

We have received the provisional Transmission date for Series 2 of Doctor Who from 3 of our contacts at the BBC.

We have been told it will be Saturday 15th April 2006, on BBC ONE, which is also the Easter weekend.

Unfortunately its in the rules that we cant post links here, but we have more information at Doctor Who Online which is located at drwho-online dot co dot uk!

Kindest Regards,

I'm not believing this yet. If they follow this schedule it will clash with the world cup, unless they're planning to show a couple of the 2-parters as double bills, which I very much doubt. There's no feasible reason to start the series so late. They could debut the first episode right now if they wanted to.

It does seem very late, especially considering how ratings dropped off as evenings got warmer last year.

I'd think that this is just a guess running along the lines of "it was easter weekend last year, it'll be easter weekend this year." If they want a Doctor Who event over easter then they could start at the beginning of March, and air the cybermen 2 parter in one go on Easter Saturday, or part 1 on Saturday and 2 on Sunday.

Yes, surely they would not be foolish enough to either run DW against an England game, or rest the series through the World Cup - given the interest in both events, I'm sure that the schedulers would opt for an earlier start date in order to get it done and dusted for the World Cup.

The problem is, Doctor Who is going to clash with the football regardless, and the fact is, they cant start it for at least 6 weeks, because the series is still some way off of completion.

Our sources were right last year, and despite the obviousness of the Easter break, that is also the most sensible date for transmission.

Whilst not doubting that you have proffered this info in good faith, there is an argument that the BBC would start the series at the end of Feb - I seem to recall that there was a thread on here about that, and the end of Feb would ensure that the series is over before the footie starts.

Surely they can start the series at the end of Feb, leaving maybe 3 weeks of filming left (as long as they have sufficient, completed episodes in the can)? Or is some of that filming in relation to earlier episodes?

No way - that is a huuuge risk for the BBC. They still have a great deal of filming to complete.

I genuinly wouldnt post this information if I felt it was incorrect.

Without wanting to doubt you, I'd rather wait for official confirmation from the BBC

That's fine, I was just posting this as the provisional TX Date. Either way, we are gonna have a fabulous second series to look forward to before long.

Don't worry footy anoraks, none of the group stage matches should clash with Doctor Who, even if you are also a Trinidad, Sweden, Argentina, Ivory Coast, Italy, USA, Czech Republic or Ghana fan! I've checked the World Cup website for all Saturday fixtures.
The 7pm to 7.45pm slot should be clear regardless of events in Germany (e.g. a match going into extra time and penalties). If anything, a lead out from/into an England game particularly a key second round or quarter final match) should benefit Dr. Who since if like last time the BBC/ITV share coverage of England matches, the viewers are more likely to turn to the BBC (I think BBC won by 3 to 1 in Japan).
The only issue is with a British loser getting a Saturday match in Wimbledon. Since a match can run indefinetly and is weather dependent, that may prove more of a problem.

All sataurday kick off's are either 4pm or 8pm BST so there will be no clash, even allowing for extra time and penaltied (yeah the ones where we lose)

I would go for an easter wknd start.. it's kinda what was expecting.

Surely that's what BBC2 is for....?!

I don't think it's so much a case of no room on the channel - it's making sure Dr Who isn't up against something that could take away viewers.

I am sure that I saw this transmission date (15.04.06) on another Doctor Who site...not too sure which one...but the date has been out in the vortex (sic) for a few weeks.

When will the official BBC site come out with the info. ?

Why do fan sites have the information first only to have it confirmed weeks or even months later by the BBC Doctor Who site?

They seem ALWAYS to be slow and behind the times.

Do BBC WALES update the site or it is still the BBC CULT TEAM?

15.04.06 - cannot wait!

I beleive that the BBC site will only publish information when it has been confirmed. Other fan sites can publish un-confirmed information and rumour.

Correct and this is usually only two or three weeks before transmission. As Sebastian said in the original post, this date is provisional (although it sounds like a reasonable enough possibility).

I saw the date on www.eyeofhorus.org.uk last week.

I thought that it was too late in the year. It would mean a July end for the season, and last year as soon as the summer started the ratings dipped.

I would postpone the 13 episodes until September-November/December. It will give the MILL to improve on their FX. (I'm not saying that their stuff is bad...it isn't). It won't happen, but that's what I think.

Have any of the other episodes been given titles yet? Whats the second cyberman episode called?

Okay, so none of the episodes clash with the football - but still, I think April is tooo far away (3 days after my birthday? are you crazy!) but I'll reserve my complete anger towards the BBC after they confirm it on the bbc website.

You're in Wales! Can't you just nip in and ask them?

eye of horus is not a reliable website. People are basically guessing start dates now. They could well be right. But I do not believe the bbc have a date set in stone this far ahead of broadcast. No title released for episode 6 as yet.

Hmmm Wales might SEEM small compared to England, but the fact that I live in North Wales and the series h.q. is in South Wales I'm not prepared to cycle over to them and ask...

Yes, I was just kidding! I used to live in the Scottish Borders and was highly amused when a friend had a French exchange student coming to stay who thought she could visit London as a day trip!

If the new series is being delayed as the remaining eps are not in the can I would rather they put it back than rush it and put out shoddy material/effects.

Just some further evidence to prove our story may very well be correct...

As you know DWM (Doctor Who Magazine) provide a preview to the episodes coming up, and as there are none in this issue (366) and no mention of it for 367, then we can only expect it to be in issue 368 which will be out for April - in time for the shows airing on April 15th.

I think that eye of horus last year stated that GENESIS OF THE DALEKS was coming to dvd. OuttpostGallifrey didn't - until recently. And eye of horus did get the date correct for the last series months before the BBC announced it. I believe that the BBC have dates planned in advance by a long way - no matter what the corporation says. TV is expensive to make, and planning is key to getting it right. I think the smaller fan websites don't get the credit they deserve sometimes, especially the british ones. all websites get stuff wrong and have to backtrack even the Outpost one.
