Apart from Shakira they're all shite, tho i must admit Enrique's song suddenly sounds good really late at night, smooching on the dancefloor with the one you love

Personally, I dislike most of the official top 10 of 2002, seeing that it's practically made up of all those crappy little childish groups/artists. I don't mind the Eminem, Nickelback and Elvis/JXL tracks, though the rest aren't any good.
IMO 'Tribute' by Tenacious D is the best song of the year so far, followed by Busta's 'Break Ya Neck'.

...To answer your question, no I didn't buy any of them.

Shakira - Whenever / Whereever is number 1 according to MTV.
Nickleback - How You Remind Me is number 2.

And Nickleback - Silver Side Up is number 1 album - with Linkin Park - Reanimation expected to take that spot.

Mark.

Are you sure that they aren't the MTV top hits of 2002 - so far?
According to Dotmusic, the official top 20 of this year (at week 32) are as Passion Club stated.

i think it is impossible for shakira and nickelback to be above will and gareth.

Will sold something like 1.2m in his first week of sales and is nearly in the top 10 of all time (in the uk) while gareth hd 4weeks at number 1 and huge sales figures in his first week.

I don't think that my first post was wrong i'm afraid.

I hate the majority of them. The charts are unbelivable as they are based on radio plays and sales, when really it should be based on sales alone. Why is it they they need to tell us what we like rather than we have our own choice! Grr!

The only bands/groups I will give respect to is the ones that make atleast 90% of their own music.

er yeh = "underneath your cloths theres an endless story"

that is pure classic isn't it.

come on guys i dont give a toss if their write their own music or not personally its all about the music i mean look at kylies "i cant get you out of my head" she didn't write that but that was pure classic one of my favourate songs of last year.

As long as the songs r good i don't give a damn okay

Will young and Gareth Gates HAVE NEVER AND NEVER WILL GIVE US A CLASSIC AND THAT ALSO GOES TO ALL SQUEEKY CLEAN SINGERS.

Gareth Gates= a stupid mistake lala= yeh the only stupid mistake you have done Gareth is wear that ugly white suit i mean do normal 18 year olds wear that kind of thing ummm.........Gareth is there something your not telling me????

actually yes...

The full lyrics are for the chorus.
'Underneath your clothes,
there's an endless story
There's the man I choose
My territory.'
and all the things I deserve,
for being such a good girl.

It nicely describes how sex is so much better for a women , when she is having it with someone she loves intensly, and is faithfull towards. In some ways its a very moral song.
I think its says far more than the usual 'do it to me baby' type lyrics we see so much in R&b. There are deep feelings expressed in the song, and how sex and love are so interlinked.
her man isnt a 'makedo' person, its someone she choose from dozens of potential mates, and who she feels is a kindred spirit.

You have to have a lot of emotional depth to write lyrics such as these. IMO.

Was it Pete Waterman who told Geri Halliwell that she was "Fame seeking" "Talentless" and "Tone Deaf"? Because I think that statement sums up about 75% of the music in the charts these days..

The UK music industry is quite frankly an embarrassment. The sales of records is at an all time low (note Status Quo's entry into the charts at the mid-teens.. with a dire, dire song.. that song wouldnt have hit the top 100 ten years ago)... The only good thing is that proper bands who play their instruments shine out much better..

I think we might need to distingusih between talentless singers and talentless song writers. There are quite a lot of artists in the charts who actually have very good singing voices for eg, who, however, are saddled with bad songs.

aslo, one thing....you do know that Status quo are a proper band who play all there own instruments?.

When I mentioned the Status Quo example, I meant that the amount of singles required to gain chart entry is virutally non-existant. Thats what I meant when I said that Quo wouldnt have made the charts with this song ten years ago. The song is dire!

At the end of the day, to gain a successfull career in the music industry, you need real passion and talent. At the end of the day I look at chart music and see people trying to make money rather than making music just for the love of it. Madonna as far as I know isnt renouned for playing instruments, however she is awsomely talented and has an amazing passion for music, thats why she is still going today.. and its not as if shes skint.. She could have quite ten years ago but didnt, because she loves what she does, unline acts such as Hearsay, the Spice Girls, and the rest of the "bands" created in the past few years who are only in the industry because they crave fame and want a quick way to earn money.

Anyone could sing given half a good voice and a few music lessons! and thats why the charts today are complete bile.

Not convinced about this. This single sold 11,000 copies which, granted, would not have charted 10 years ago. But, as more people were buying singles then, more people would have bought it.

Not their best effort, but nevertheless a song that you can't get out of your head once you've listened to it.

And, I might add, not representative of Heavy Traffic, their new album due out on Sept 23rd. I'm the first to admit their recent studio output has been poor compared to the 70's. But this is back to their roots with heavy, bluesy rock music and probably their best album since On The Level in 74.

Quo fan? Me? How did you tell??!
