Mariah Carey and her 'voice'
I'm not making this thread to be personal and unpleasant, but it had been bugging me for the last few weeks of people stressing the point that Mariah Carey has the highest vocal range, for those of you who dislike her I made a surprising discovery and found out that she doesn't. it is in fact Minnie Ripperton (who tragically died in 1979) who's in the lead for having a 6/7-octave voice.
Feel free to comment, but please don't be nasty Last edited by Fashion : 02-02-2006 at 05:38. |

Minnie is generally accepted to have a 5 octave range. Mariah is purported to have a 7 octave range, but is, in fact, also a 5 octave.
which is pretty awesome anyway!. |

Minnie can reach much higher notes in her live performances because my mum went to see her perform, looks like you're second place Mariah.

Minnie does have the higher vocal range yes, however Mariah has hit notes that are in Minnie's range. Nevertheless, they are both extremely good singers.
I think when Mariah is credited as having the highest vocals, do people mean in popular music right now? As far as I know, she has the highest vocal range of a living female singer. |

I know and Minnie can reach all the notes in between as well as the ability to go lower than Mariah,I started this thread because Mariah Carey I feel has become stuck-up due to the sucess of her latest album

She might have the highest vocal range for a living singer or whatnot, but the warbling/screeching/whatever you want to call it, she does at the end of her songs really grates on my nerves!

No offence, but I think she's a chunky wailing bint! Her voice is incredibly annoying as well as her attitude.

![]() Mariah Carey also has a 5 octave range. Unfortunately however, she's a really horrible singer. Let's just leave it there. |

For me, good singing is more about personality etc. than being technically perfect; I'd rather to listen to the likes Bob Dylan, Jarvis Cocker, and Alex Turner etc. instead of Mariah Carey.
