The 02 U Phones

just to let you all know that phoned 02 today and because we only use our U phones for emergencys, ie we have 3 phones 1 for the car, 1 for the van & 1 for the sons scooter, that we are not going to get a free phone, even though we have kept to their t&c by making and receiving a call at least every 6 months. This is very unfair to us as these phones cant be used with any other sims or the sims cant be used in any other phones and the phones are like new so is there anyone out there know were we stand in the legal eyes, that 02 are picking and choosing who gets a replacement phone and who does not ,a very unfair way to do business.
sorry to all who dont know this service is being stopped on the 31 may so you all should start and phone 02

Ahh yes... I remember the old U phones changed mine many years ago. The phone should be able to be unlocked to other networks, just need to ask for the code.

However other 02 sims will work in the phone, so I would just get a free 02 Online sim. Then ring up customer care and have your U phone number 'ported' across to the new sim. You would still be on Pay and Go.

Hehe on another note, always wondered something with those U phones. Was the balance always stored on the phone?

The original Philips Diga phones can not be unlocked to take any other SIM, o2 or otherwise. The replacement C12 and C13 handsets can be unlocked.

Not sure why you'd want to anyway, when you can buy a new basic PAYG phone and still get change from a £20 note.

Why would you assume that o2 would give a free phone to a customer who hardly uses it? Of course they can pick and choose, they're not a charity.
