Dead or Alive: You spin me right round- New video?
I just happened to flick across the hits channel on sky and saw a new video for dead or alive's you spin me right round. What a shocker! I swear Pete Burns has only been out of the BB house for a few days and a new video out?
Am I mistaken? has this been out for while now? it certainly is a very strange video, and I've been put in a trance by the amount of camera coverage Pete Burn's lips get . Are they all women now? Cos they definitely look it in the vid.Am I hallucinating? Someone else must have seen this surely?? |

Think this song has been re released many times. I believe it was a couple of years ago since the last one and there is a video for that. I didn't know it was Pete Burns when I first saw it back then.

I was hoping this would bomb in the charts given his disgusting attitude towards its being rereleased. Shame its going top 5.

It's first release was 1984 as a 7" and two 12" mixes (Murder Mix and Performance Mix).
The same three mixes were released again in 1995 on CD but only in Australia and it got withdrawn. In 1996 a brand new mix of the single (which sounds quite different to the original - it's called the Sugar Pumpers Mix) was released on CD with about ten other similar up-to-date mixes but it failed to chart. In 1997 there were various club mixes of You Spin Me Round released on CD in France (these are really powerful). Various other official mixes different to all of the above mixes have also appeared on other DOA releases as bonus tracks. Then it was released again in 2003 and called the Metro Mix (produced by the people who did Cher's Believe) and got to number 23 in the UK charts, there's CD1 and CD2 of this with various extended mixes and other dj promo mixes also exist. That's not to mention several unofficial mixes of the track as well as cover versions (Marylin Manson apparently covered it). Now it's out again but no new mixes, just the original 7" and The Murder Mix (which is a mistake as it's actually the Performance Mix they've used) and the 2003 Metro Mix. All in all there are well over 20 official mixes of the song out there! The current video is just the 2003 one re-edited for the 1984 version as the record company wanted a more modern image of Pete even though he's changed again since then. The video's heavily "air-brushed" anyway, the band actually payed for it themselves (costing them £40 000) as Sony wouldn't make a video as they didn't think Spin Me would chart so they didn't want to spend too much on promotion. Now they're just wheeling Pete back out because of his high profile after his BB appearance. |

The new (well 2001) video is scary...I saw it for the first time recently - too much plastic going on in it. I much prefer the original video and the original version of the song....AND the original version of Pete Burns' face - he really wasn't bad looking I dunno why he had to go so extreme :/

It would be great to see a Stock Aitken Waterman song in the Top 10 in 2006...
