Martin Kemp - Tosspot.
I couldn't go back like that, although I understand why they did it with Den. When I started in EastEnders in 1998 I told myself I'd do three years, which is the optimum amount of time to spend on these shows and still be able to walk away with your dignity intact as far as I'm concerned.
Dignity intact? how offensive to true acting greats such as June Brown, Barbra Windsor, Pat St Clement and so on. I always thought he was a crap actor, he was more wooden than pinocchio and those mentioned wipe the floor with him and we all know that if Steve Owen wasn't killed off he'd be back like a shot, seem as though his acting jobs are few and far between (Oh waith DFS pay him a fair bit). |

If you've been in a soap for more than 5 years it's because you wouldn't be good at anything else and no one else would want you.
That's my opinion. |

How exactly is what he said offensive? He just didn't want to be stuck in the same part for years on end.

he was great as Steve Owen in the John yorke and Mattew Robinson era. The writers were also much more talented in them days and knew exactly what to do with the steve owen character. I still miss him and wish he didn't get killed off

'Martin Kemp rules out Eastenders return' - erm, who asked him back? I'm sure the producers are well aware that he died in a car explosion we saw on screen and so wouldnt be able to return anyway. i wouldn't want him back anyway.

How come all those Sofas are already in his house yet he can't decide which one to buy? I don't understand those ads.

I loved the character of steve owen, but there wasnt any likely storylines left for him, so it was wise for him to leave when he did. All good villians get their comeuppance eventually.
What he said was quite offensive to the other actors on EE, but he is probably right. Long term soap actors are generally looked down upon by other actors and casters. Mainly because they become synonymous with their character, so its difficult to take them seriously in any other role. Take Deirdre or Ken from Corrie, I couldnt imagine them playing anyone else convincingly. Its difficult enough to make it as an actor though. I suspect that long serving cast members are extremely well paid, so i'm sure they wont be too bothered about those who choose to act snobbishly about their choice of employment. |

I can't see anything wrong with what he said and I'm still chuckling at Barbra Windsor being described as a 'true acting great'

Wish he would come back, I thought his character was great.
Did Steve ever get a funeral in EE? We saw the explosion... he *could* have escaped at the last minute if they wanted him to. |

Dignity intact? how offensive to true acting greats such as Pat St Clement . Thanks for cheering me up (though you mean Pam not Pat); I never thought I'd read the words 'true acting great' and Pam St Clement in the same sentence. My sides are near splitting.......If this wooden and one dimensional actress is a true great then must would make Wendy Richard a legend! |

Also Todd carty was in EE for more than 5 years and hes managing to find work elsewhere. Now, as for Todd Carty, THANK YOU CINDERFLARE! Finally someone gives Todd Carty credit. He was excellent and inspirational in Eastenders for over a decade, played good guy Mark Fowler. He then made a complete transition into bad guy and played Gabriel in The Bill. Its a shame hes dead in both soaps, because they were great characters and he is a brilliant actor. |
