IMO John was the best skater.
John and Bonnie were the the skaters I looked forward to watching, although on Saturday I thought Gaynor skated a beautiful routine and Stephen impressed me too.
I think it is fair comment to say that people thought John was safe and didn't vote. I didn't vote on Saturday as I had the programme on Sky + as I was getting ready to go out. When I caught the skate-off programme before I headed out, I was really surprised at the bottom two from what I already thought of the skaters, but thought that it was a cert that the judges would keep John in. Having watched both programmes back, for me, David and Kelly should have been the bottom two, with Kelly going. I did actually prefer Stephan's routine on the night, but thought John was a better skater. It was a shame the decision had to be made between the two of them and I personally think if it was down to their skating alone, it wouldn't have been. I think Stephan suffers from his lower 'profile' than some of the other more familiar names unfortunately. I think the reaction to John's departure shows that he was popular, and I am sad to say that, as I didn't vote despite him being my fav, that I am partially responsible for his going out - so by having a social life, I've helped ruin my own enjoyment of the show - gutted!
John seems to have been frequently misquoted this week. He has been understandably upset, as his obvious enthusiasm for skating and the show was evident (one of the reasons I liked him). Any interview I have seen with him in person, as opposed to the spin of a journalists interpretation, he has come across as upset but ultimately philiosophical about what happened on Saturday. He has not slated the other skaters and when asked who he wanted to win, he said Bonnie.
BTW - to a previous poster who called John an 'old man' - since when has 38 been old?? I suppose it's all relative - but really?? Bonnie is the oldest competitor isn't she? 41, I think - I don't think she's 'old' either
