No, it was Bronze.

But when they were on the podium, they were the ones who looked like champions.

Yes I remember the whole Bronze fiasco!

It was very suspicious as they were in the lead prior to the free dance. The audience in the arena went beserk when they saw their marks, booing like mad. When they were on the podium they received a better reception than the russian couples in 1st and 2nd.

That Russian woman who won looked miffed if I remember.

OMG, how old do I feel?! I was 12 when they won in Sarajevo in 1984... Oh well, I guess this is one time when I don't mind being ancient!

I have all the clippings, books, articles etc from that time so I'm quite lucky. I just wish we'd had a video recorder. It's still a sore point with my mother that she refused to let me stay up till the small hours when the ice dance free was delayed because of a power cut. Their final amateur performance and I slept through it!!

Jayne and Chris don't need appreciation...that comes as standard in the package They need shrines!, palaces!, temples!, harems! - Well, i'm sure you get the idea...

They are fantastic - always have been and without a shadow of a doubt always will be. If you don't believe in the magic they create both on and off the ice then you clearly need a brain transplant! In my opinion never will we have another pair of skaters to come out of our country that will surpass them!

On another note - they haven't changed much at all! Chris is still gorgeous, in fact i'd go as far as to say now he is even better looking *Mind wanders off* Jayne is still as graceful...

What a lovely thread, just what I was looking for. If only I thought to look here when DoI was on. I was 12 in 1984, old enough to know I was watching something truly history-making as well as of sheer beauty. C&J still come across as genuine, down to earth people today and the programme has only solidified that to me. I could watch them 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and still not get bored and if I don't see a Best of DVD soon I think I will explode !

I too was a teenager when Torvill & Dean were in their heyday and I was MAD about them! I managed to persuade my Dad to buy our first ever video recorder (thankfully VHS rather than Betamax!) just so I could record their Olympic year. I still have the tapes twenty-something years later - and, amazingly enough, they still work in my VCR.

I'm so chuffed about their comeback on DOI, so happy to see them together again and over the moon about how fantastically gracious/gorgeous and genuinely down to earth they come across!
