According to John Barrowman's webmaster, his agent has 'confirmed' that filming starts April for transmission in the Autumn... on BBC1

Hmm. BBC One! That's a surprise!

Well, from earlier reports I think we were originally led to believe that Torchwood would air immediately after series two of DW ended, but this sounds like it will probably finish just prior to the Christmas 2006 DW.

Which could mean any number of things, but I would speculate that Torchwood will be a self-contained series, neatly packaged so that all loose ends are tied up by the end of it in case it doesn't fare too well - but with enough 'seeds' to enable a second series if it does.

Captain Jack may well return to DW in the Christmas 2006 episode, particularly if the rumours about Billie leaving then are true. Either way it's likely he may return for series three of DW (and may even become full-time companion again, for a while) to help the audience transition if Rose leaves, possibly?

I thought Torchwood was due to air on BBC3?

It was originally to air on BBC3, with a potential re-run on BBC1 afterwards. I think they've looked again at the ratings for the Xmas special, and John Barrowman's recent high profile and decided it'd be silly to not air it on the major channel?

Though it does raise questions about the timeslot - am guessing a 9pm slot if on a weekday as they can't put it pre-watershed and the news is at 10.

9pm is the timeslot Russell T Davies is aiming for, whether on BBC3 or otherwise. I'm really looking forward to it. It's gonna be high-tech/sci-fi drama with that post-watershed slant.

But not sexy! RTD and JB seem to want to play that aspect down even though they started it!
