Ah well, it was a nice thought while it lasted!

Part of an email from Panasonic I had several questions this was the reply to one of them.

As you correctly state we no longer manufacture the 80gig PVR.

As it was qualified as the "80Gb PVR", should we understand that they are manufacturing one with a different (larger?) capacity? The 200 perhaps?

I presume that means that we will no longer get any firmware updates then

I cant believe that a named firm can just dump us like that
and if that is the case i will be looking to get rid of mine back to them

Presumably it's just cynicism and world-weariness that leads you to jump to that conclusion? Maybe true, may not. Somebody (I can't remember who), posted a few days back that he was expecting us to get an upgrade to the MHEG engine, which was also to be used on the rumoured TUCTH200

Well, they were bound to stop making it sometime, and after all, some of the postings on this forum will hardly have encouraged them that it was a goer....

Fingers crossed!!

Mine had it's second post-0.57 lock-up last week. The day after we went away leaving 8 programmes ready to record......

Mine's been increadibly unstable recently. Crashes, lock-ups, missed recordings.

I think a lot of my (recent) problems have been due to my choice of channel before putting the unit into standby. Regular readers will know that the unit is quite tempermental when it comes to interactive content.

I used to switch into standby with it set to BBC1, but switched to C4 when the Commenwealth games were on. C4 now has some BB interactive content, so I moved to ITV1 (probably my worst decision ever!).

I use BBC1 again now as there's no major interactive content being transmitted. So far, so good...it's recorded everything I've asked it to (although my fingers are permanently crossed).

I hope this next update is indeed for the '100. Otherwise I'm likely to miss all of the Tour de France on ITV2 (if they're still covering it!) when I go on holiday for 2 weeks in July!

No major lock up issues since 0.57, though it has required me to reboot once or twice, but as it wasn't recording at the time no long term impact.

Now that the good weather is upon us again, have seen a re-occurence of the signal break up on tuner 1, most affected seem to be BBC channels. This is the one thing I would like to fix, but have no idea how. Fortunately it recorded the GP ok yesterday, but I noticed the BBC1 picture on tuner 1 was awful!

Chris, If this problem is related to fine weather, then it is almost certainly because your antenna is picking up a signal from a distant transmitter that is interfering with the signal you should be receiving. Under certain summer weather conditions, UHF signals can travel surprising distances.

You need to get advice from a competent aerial installer familiar with your area, who will best placed to advise you whether changes to your aerial installation may help solve the problem.

Keeping us on tenterhooks this time!!!

BTW I've had two crashes over the last few days. Completely lacking any evidence, but I'm wondering if it's interactive World Cup services that are causing it.

Anyone else having troubles?

Not being a footie fan, I'd like to be able to blame the World Cup for yet more disruption to my TV viewing...............

Yes, although it's a bit sporadic. It's been ok over the last couple of days, but one day last week (I can't remember which one) I had the unit crash on me twice in quick succession.

Not for TUCTH 100 on the 26 June

Repeat of 0.57 scheduled for 1 Day 28/29 June

Looks like the lock-ups and failed recordings are to continue for the time being then.

I picked one of these up last week that has the .47 software. Most of the recordings from the EPG seem to start around 30 seconds late.

Is this a known issue that I can expect .57 to resolve?

I haven't had a failed recording since v0.57, in the sense of a recording not taking place on an otherwise fully functioning machine.

The only time it fails to make recordings now is when it locks up.

(The point I'm making is that there were previously two separate faults - lockups and missed recordings - now there's only one.)

Same with me. 100% recording and only 1 lock up since software update. Apart from the painfully slow remote response this machine is about as good as it gets and still amazes me with its crystal clear video output (RGB) into my LCD Panny TV and the auto dubbing into my Panny DVD recorder.

Yes pafos, couldn't agree with you more!! This is the one feature that truly makes the TU-CTH unique in the current PVR world, no other PVR as far as I am aware, lets you have so much control over what you can archive to your external device, and let you watch/ record at the same time. This feature is still a winner for me because if you do a lot of archiving to DVD, it makes it so easy, and can do it in the background at the same time. If only Panasonic had also enabled RGB output on the EX2 scart it would be perfect!!! ( We're never satisfied are we?) and I agree with you about the picture being unbeatable as well.

No idea if others have the issue - I always pad the EPG times anyway to cover for the inability of the broadcasters to read a clock........

I'm not aware of 0.57 doing anything in this area.

I've had 3 missed recordings since getting my box, which came with v0.57, none of which occured during a lock up.

.57 is scheduled for today. My box has been sitting with both tuners on BBC1 since 10:00 & manual update still shows "Please wait!" after 75 minutes.

What am I doing wrong?
Crocodile

Well the automatic update also failed to find anything. I've just power cycled the box & it's now found the update & is currently downloading.

Even allowing for the fact that PVRs in general appear to be unreliable pieces of junk with software written by 10 year-olds on recycled Sinclair ZX81s, Panasonic efforts really are laughable.

Now now, I know there are at least 6 of us who find the Panny very reliable under 0.57

Well then I can only assume that there are alot of boxes out there that have problems at the hardware level.

I only use my box for ~2-3 hours a week, it crashes every single time I use it, once if I'm lucky (usually at startup), but generally a couple of times an hour. Today, it's just crashed while recovering from a crash multimple times, so it's taken about 10 minutes to get it into a state where I can swap channels.

This box is the most unreliable/unstable piece of consumer electronics I've ever bought.

I just can't figure how you're having so little grief with yours..... the pana engineer claims they're all identical, and swapping it probably won't make much difference, but your (and others) experience would seem to differ.
