Do you think that I have been unlucky then? I left the unit for about 90 minutes to update, I didn't switch it off and there was no-one in there, its just trashed. I guess this cuold have happened even if there was an automatic update....

No lewisnt, but will get back to you on that. It should fix
1. Info bar pop up on playback of recording.
2. No recording problem or short recording.
3. Incorrect switching on BBC channels when 4.3 content is broadcast.
4. Lock ups when using Teletext and BBC i (MHEG services)

These are problems that Panasonic are aware of but please don't quote me as this is only what I think should have been put right , and I will try and find out what the OTA update has actually addressed.

i left it in standby this morning,got home at 2.30 and searched for the update,then found it had already updated by it self !!
so far i've noticed changing channels is faster.

yes your unit will have picked up the update at noon when it searches for it. It is really safer to let it do it itself as we have waited so long that it is easy to mess it up before it has saved it to the hard drive. I only waited because I was watching it when the warning screen came up warning me not to put it into standby or think that it had finished, as I could have easily thought that the update had finished when it hadn't. All those of you at work today, if you have left the TU-CTH in standby should have it installed when you get home.

I'd endorse that - I've just got home to find my unit happily sitting in standby with v0.57 already installed!! Whew!

It may be wishful thinking, but I fancy the HD operation is quieter. But I wasn't very aware of noise levels anyway, because my unit's not in a bedroom.

Yes lewisnt I agree with your assessment of the update. The first thing I noticed is that the lettering in the menu's etc is definately clearer, the black writing is more black. Have made a recording since the update (Poirot on ITV1) then watched it back, no info bar pop up!!! This software update is I am sure, only meant to address the bugs, not to provide any enhancements. If you remember the last update, besides trying to fix the slow response to channel changing, Panasonic also enabled the 'watch from where I left off in a recording' feature that everyone had asked for. I will be quite satisfied if this update just puts right the software bugs, as then the Panasonic will be one of the best PVR's out there, especially if you want a PVR which gives the user lots of control when archiving to an external device.

Add me to the list of successful updates - I decided to do a search while waiting for the boss to get her face on and it found it fairly quickly. I left it to do its own thing and it so far seems fine.

She Who Must Be Obeyed will keep me informed of any changes I guess.

Trev 2 have you got it tuned to BBC1? If so just go into the software update screen at about o'clock or half past. the TU-CTH should pick up that there is an update available. If you have been at work all day and left the unit in standby, then check the software version because it could have already downloaded it itself.

Got home, not updated. Manually updated, took roughly 20 mins. Rebooted itself absolutley fine.

The menus and response from the remote seem a great deal crisper. Set some timers for this evening...so we will see.

After my initial disappointment of earlier in the day, back at home @ 17:45 and it had updated... not sure how it did that considering it had not done it by 13:45, well past it's 12:05 check... and I had left in standby, not on

Now now Nirm don't let's be greedy!!!I will be more thatn happy if just the bugs have been eliminated!! Remember, this is only the second OTA that the Panny has had. Compared with some of the other PVR's, that's good. If all the bugs have been eliminated, then perhaps Panasonic will implement the other stuff, they have been just concentrating on the faults.

GG p.s. done a straight to ext device recording,(simpsons) and that was o.k. This used to have sound but no picture if you set the Panny to record to ext, no subtitles, so looks like that has been sorted.

I'm new to this Panny PVR. Only had it for 3 weeks.

Can someone tell me why in TV Guide I have no listings for ITV or Channel 4? This makes the whole EPG recording functionality useless as I can't program in future recordings (only by manual setting! which is'nt what I paid money for).

I'm sure there must be some explanation? I put the box on standby most nights, but for the last few days it has'nt updated these listings. My machine is now on V.57.

Still no joy. It still has version CTH100_0.47 on screen and just tells me to wait while searching for available updates. It done that for 4 hours. We’ll see what may happen tomorrow

Would just like to confirm what others have been saying, so far so good. Unfortunately I don't have a conventional TV ariel feed at my flat (I moved there in november since which time the panasonic has been boxed up) so have brought it up to my parents house to test. I've set a few recordings up so I'll see how it goes. The Championship highlights on ITV1 always used to trip it up if these record ok then things are definately looking up.

I /think/ I'm seeing slightly faster responses to some inputs, but that may just be psychological :~)

So does this update fixe everything is it the best PVR now ???

Because i don't know which one to buy the Panasonic TUCTH100 or the Humax PVR9200 ???

I got up this morning and found that the Panny had updated itself. Ok, we we will see later if there is any improvement.

cecemf, you have posted on every PVR section on DS and I also seen you have posted other internet PVR forums. You have probably done more research than most. You know what the differences are, you know that if you are going to have any bugs what they will be and you know how much they all cost. For the features you want at the price you are happy to pay. If you really need to be pushed one way or the other, just get a Digifusion FVRT145 from argos for £125. I have one on order and will be receiving it on Friday hopefully. I dont see how it can be criticised for £125. If it turns out not to work, give it back on that basis and get another one.

If you are just looking at these two units, on the early evidence of the new patch (however, would wait another week before making a final decision... just in case there are hidden issues), I would actually recommend the TU-CTH100. Apart from not being TUTV compatible and a smaller hard drive (still giving 45 hours of top quality uncompressed recordings!), the lack of chase-play and the many bugs yet to be resolved on the Humax, IMHO do not make the 9200T a viable contender, at the moment.

On the other hand, I (and 100s of others!) put up for 9 months or so with a highly unreliable Panny having faith that issues would be resolved... and if they have been, we're all going to be incredibly happy. Basically, if you want to risk the Humax, be prepared for all the well documented problems and in the knowledge that it may take Humax just as long to solve the 9200T's issues as it did with the Panny

GG - if you remember, I had a similar experience (though without the heart-stopping aspect suffered by Trev2!)... it seems to have downloaded the patch in the background well beyond the the normal 12:05 auto-check... odd... any way, who cares and more relieved to know that no one appears to have suffered a catastrophic failure, with most seeming to be happy bunnies

Far too early to tell. It'll take me months to be certain some of the problems I was experiencing are gone. Just because that's how infrequently I was experiencing them. Of course, we might know much sooner if it isn't fixed ......

I'm confused about this 12:05 business. I thought it looked for updates at 12:05 midnight, not 12:05 lunchtime. Or am I muddling that up somehow? Anyway, as you say, who cares??

Oh, Except me. Didn't aynone read my posts? I have now got to send my recorder back to Panasonic for them to un-trash it and hopefully save my recordings.

I was hoping to get them to allow me to repair the box myself (have a workshop full of PC's, Cable, Soldering Irons and some wet string) and was sure I could cobble something together if they would email the flash / software. Wasn't to be. Apparently the senior guy has taken the day off today after not calling me back yesterday.


I'm sure you all think that I wasn't patient and didn't leave it for long enough, but I think 90 minutes is long enough and to then go back and find that it's just sitting there blank is incredibly frustrating.

Still, my knackers have survived (just) and I'm hoping Panasonic can save my stuff.

Am interested to read about the improvements though....

After updating my panny yesterday lunchtime and still showing V.47
Checked it last night when I got home and it is now on .57 ...brilliant...
Haven't really had time to see if I can see any changes...but the fan seems quieter.
Recorded the Fourth Protocol last night ... so will have to see how that went...
Shame my Digifusion box isn't as easy to get going.... it has completely crashed....Very pleased that I still have the panny .........
