In last night's ep she said to Martin that Arthur proposed to her at her sister's wedding.
Which sister is that?
Its not the Irish sister as they didn't know about her until a few years ago.
So who was she and what happened to her?
I remember in the 1940s Civvy Street special Lou had 3 kids in 1940- I thought this was a mistake as Pauline and Pete weren't born until 1945 but apparently it was Kenny and two older kids she had. I think the older boy was called Ronny and he died at some point.

She said she was married to Arthur for 40 years- that cant be right either. And I wonder why we never saw any of Arthur's family over the years- was he an only child?

Yes, if Arthur has beed dead for 9 years, that means she married him 49 years ago, making her at least 65 now. What rubbish.

Having checked out the BBC website, there is no other sister in her family tree (other than the irish one). It does say that Arthur proposed to her when she had the flu, but does not relate to any sister. Are they trying to intriiduce a new character? If so how are they going to explain another sister?

I thought you may like to know there has been some discussion on this in the Eastenders Tuesday 7th Feb thread. Some fans have brilliant memories and have put the writers to shame. It seems they made several gaffs last night; it's well worth a read.

There was 2 or 3 errors in last nights script I do wish that they would research their facts when it comes to this family.

Really? I can't see any discussion apart from two posts.

Both the mention of Pauline's sister, and the inaccuracy regarding the length of her marriage to Arhur (40 years now, if he had lived perhaps?) really puzled me......but clean forgot about this when preented with the ghastly sight of Pat and Pat (and his hat) getting it on

Sorry if you didn't find it interesting, I did; after all, a discussion between only two posters is still a discussion!

One of the contributors is Polly Perkins, whom you accused me of being! I thought it was informative, I'd forgotten about Pauline's sister, until I read it there.

I still think there was another sister so Lou had 6 children: 3 of each. So what on earth happened to this sister is a mystery. Maybe she had children and they will join the show in due course?
Also the actor who played Kenny Beale is now appearing in Hotel Babylon as the porter I think. So now he is back from NZ perhaps he could visit Pauline for her wedding.
Afterall I doubt her ungrateful daughter Michelle will make the effort seen as though she has missed family members funerals...

Pauline, Kenny and Pete's sister Maggie was born before Lou and Albert were married, so she was adopted, and sent to Ireland. They then had two children, Ronnie and Maureen, but they died during World War II (it is not known how they died).

Then there was Pete, Pauline and Kenny, who left to go to New Zealand, then Pete died, leaving just Pauline and (the secret) Maggie...

I have stopped watching this week but reading this thread perhaps she is still considering herself married to Arthur as she hasnt been with anyone else since his death, so maybe the 40 years she was talking about included the last nine years which could make sense ... well maybe??

I remember Pauline telling Michelle the story of Arthur proposing on her sister's wedding day on the morning of Michelle's non-wedding to Lofty.

Back in the 80s there were a series of fictional books about the characters' pasts and in the Beale one Lou and Albert had two other children, who were both older than Kenny, Pete and Pauline. I think they were Ronnie and Susan, but 'twas a long time ago!

Although you'd think Pauline would mention them more often. I mean, she does like to live in the past. She also appears to have forgotten that her Irish sister exists.

Arthur also told this sister story on the day of Michelle's dumping Lofty at the alter episode. but no sister ever materialised. I remember raising this -sadly wit a tv magazine at the time of the irsih sister and it was admitted it was a cock up by the scriptwriters

The entire population of Ireland is hoping it remains that way.

Apparently it was Maureen, not Susan.

Yes it was Maureen according to the EE books, and her and Ronnie died in WW2 (I think it might have been in the same bomb blast that wiped out Ethel's entire family, but don't quote me on that... ever!)

But Pauline was born in 1945, the year WW2 ended, so it can't have been Maureen getting married when Arthur proposed

So if they died during the war how did Pauline attend her wedding never mind being asked to marry Arthur???
I undertsand that producers tend to change history to suit themselves( retcon) but why mention the sister's wedding after all these years.
Surely Wendy Richards must of thought it strange.
I also think the producers would like to forget about the whole Irish family disaster.
Arthur said to Michelle before she married Lofty something about her cousin driving a swanky car while they had no money. Not sure if this cousin was on the Fowler or Beale side.
Im still surprised none of Arthur's family were seen for such a major character.
And Lou had a sister called Lil as well I think- and also her adopted sister Nellie who stayed for a while with Paulne.

She wasnt Irish she was Paulines full sister according to the family tree and also she got that name by marriage if my sources are correct making her not irish.

So as of now Pauline has: two confirmed sisters (Maggie – the adopted Irish sister and eldest of the Beale Siblings) and Maureen (who died during the war)….and now there’s another sister who has been mentioned twice before?

Pauline also has three brothers Pete (her twin), Kenny (who lives in New Zealand) and Ronnie (who also died during the war).

Ok, so Aunt Nellie is Lou’s adopted sister (when was this mentioned?) – didn’t she have an affair with Lou’s husband Albert; which resulted in her having a baby Or am I getting confused with Dot and her half-sister Rose ?

Apparently, Arthur has only mentioned the Fowler side of the family a few times.

When Nellie came into the show it was said she wasnt Lou's real sister. Dont think she had an affair with Albert.
Dots sister Rose had an affair with Charlie for many years. Strangely this character has never been seen-a bit like Sheridan from Appearances.

I don’t know if they’ve reconciled, but Dot did go and care for Rose after she became ill at the end of 2002 and she consequently missed Jamie’s funeral.

I’m glad Dot has Sonia, Robbie, Bradley, Rebecca etc…around because I think Dot has never been able to fulfil her maternal instincts until she took on Jim’s (great/) grandchildren and it’s nice to see Dot have a happy ever after….

I’m sure Albert Beale had an affair with one of Pauline’s sisters (adopted or otherwise).
