I just got this email from BBC-America. I think all the writing I did has paid off becasue they`ve changed the times on EE yet again!!!!.

EastEnders statement Aug 9 2002

BBC America has listened to the many fans who have contacted us and asked for a weekend airing of EastEnders.

We cannot reinstate the Sunday airing of EastEnders because the show's ratings have been extremely disappointing. Indeed, it was evident that a large number of viewers were leaving BBC America when EastEnders came on. This is why we have replaced Sunday's EastEnders with two of our most popular and top rated shows Changing Rooms and Ground Force.

However we understand that many fans are finding it difficult to see EastEnders in its current slot on Friday afternoons. Therefore the Friday showing will be replaced with a Saturday airing, 1:00 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. ET, starting September 7 (August 30 will be the last Friday airing).

We hope this will give as many fans as possible the opportunity to watch the show and encourage new viewers to discover it.

BBC America has to compete in a highly competitive environment, while bringing a range of great British programs to the widest possible U.S. audience. Nobody will be more delighted than us if EastEnders proves a success in its new time slot. However, we must make it clear that we will be reviewing the situation next year and if the show fails to perform on Saturdays it will be discontinued.

Thank you for your continued support.

Best regards,
BBC AMERICA

Isn't that great I read that this morning. I e-mailed BBCA to see if they could start the new move to Sat with the next episode and not repeat the one from Friday...that way we would not be knocked back to 4 weeks behind. And have you seen that the other site will be back this weekend!!!!! It's just a good day all around...plus it FRIDAY.

Hello Alex. We were just 2 weeks behind and then BBCA changed the veiwing time so that we became three weeks behind. We do have Public TV stations that aire EE but most of them are 2-3 years behind. Alot of us, especially those on this board look at the updates on the BBC site...that way we can still chat about what just happened. Today on BBCA they showed the episode with the great Vic fight scene. I taped it and will watch it tomorow....Go Trueman's.....Boo Slaters

The reason that EastEnders does so poorly in the US is probably due to a point that I think Bill Bryson made, that US soaps are about the upper echelons of society, what most Americans aspire to, ie Dynasty, while British soaps are something people can look at to say, well, at least my life isn't that bad, ie Brookside. I suppose this might say more about Brittish attitudes versus American attitudes to life, than their respective TV preferences.

As an aside, my sister, who is American, is addicted to BBC America, and thinks that it's a great channel, but

There are ads on BBC America, and they are the cheesiest, mostly infomercial-type stuff: miracle cleaning solutions, miracle closet organizers, miracle whatever. You'd think they'd be aiming a bit higher than the sort of ads you see with professional wrestling...

She obviuosly never watched Challenge. They always show those infomercial type ads (Especially that Songs 4 Worship one- Its on so often I pull out my hair every time i see it! Hearing "praise to the lord" songs and seeing people with their hands in the air 7 or 8 times a day is enough to drive you mad!") all the time.

IS it true that there is a god network in America like 10 channels - we only have two GOD (GOD Channel and GOD Revival) chanenls but that is bad enough!!!

And don't forget all that 'paid programming' in the US...there God channels pay for air time on other channels.

In Memphis on Sunday mornings, most of the 80 channels on cable show religious programmes.

I know its a little of topic but when i was flicking throught there was this guy on TBN Europe asking for people to donate a 'gift' of $40 for 5 months or 1 off a $200 to keep broadcasting the message of God. Looking behind his well dressed manner was this plush background of studios a chruch and scenery with a lake .. so forth . Do people really pay these gifts then???? What are the accountinng figures for TBN ?

BBC-America is part of package we don`t pay for it seperatly. Its on the basic package for $20 something, Which isn`t bad for 100+ channels.
Although here in WV I`m miffed because they don`t have local broadcasts here CBS, ABC, NBC, Fox, PBS. We get our *local* from New York and LA.
Stupid FCC regulations.

Most regional news is either on cable systems or the major cities for people who have DirecTV. I live out in the country so I don`t qualify - yet.
Ditto with DSL and cable modems. Thats one of the drawbacks of quiet country living - always the last to get anything decent.

I just got rid of my dish and swithced to digital cable here. I had my computer on the cable line and had TV on the Dish. I was paying $104.00 for the two together. I decided to combine them to save slightly. I ,like you wavlovr only got NY news even though I live in New England. I had to pay extra to get local news. It's almost become a game to see what you can get for the cheapest $$$$$. I think i am also preparing myself when EE goes to VOD which I have heard rumors of.

Same thing with our country -Cable and ASDL is getting better in residential areas but its unhead of outside citys and towns unless you can afford satellite modems - very pricy though
Bt control the market for that though which is a bit annoying but luckily my area is cabled too!

In terms of reginal news throught the ariel is ok for my region but on sky it wont be on until next month - we get London news as a default with a select few others when the 30 minute round up is on.

Do you have a HDTV? - is it a good as it is made out to be?

Sureley the one could thing about being in the countryside is that you don't get affected by many sports blackouts though!?
