I would have to say about every major network over hear. Some are going to air 9/11 all day ...not just the footage of what happened...lord..I hope not....but I am sure all sorts of things. In a town nearby at 8:46 am when the first plane hit tower #1 they will have a gun salute and then all day different things going on and at 9:11 pm they will have a prayer service. It will be a very mournful day here in the US since it is only a year since this tragic, uncalled for, event took place.

Yer its going to be a sombre day . Round here church's will be open but i think there will be a large remeberance service in London probably at St Pauls Catherdral with the Queen and those who lost work/partners in the USA that work on the London financial circuit.

Hi , as I found out Fraiser begins on NBC on September 24th
Is it true that they show one show then repeat it the next week then the following week show another new episode.
So 13 new episodes fill the schedule for 26 weeks? Is this true please?

Sad to say yes Andy. They do that a lot over here, doesn`t matter what prog it is. The Simpsons, Frasier, or ER. They show a few new ones then we get reruns sandwiched in.
In ER this week its the Mark Greens letter episode again. Then the week after the final from last season which was in May. Then the week after they`ll start a new season on Sept 19th.

PS, I didn`t see you on MSN, I apologise. Wouldn`t have intentionally ignored you.
andyk22
04-09-2002
That means I won't see Fraiser until March 24th if we have to wait for NBC to finish all the new episodes first befor we can see it on Channel 4 over here then
Over here Sky One do the same with new Simpsons - they just pop up now and again but they show so many old repeats!

Thats Ok about MSN , sure i'll see you online another time!

Andy, we get the Simpsons up to 5 times a day here. At 5 and 5.30 on WV Fox channel. Then 7pm on Fox out of NY, 9pm and 10.30 on Fox out of LA Monday-Friday and then another at 8pm Fox on Sunday.
And all the Simpsons episodes are never in sequence.I`m still waiting for them to show the Sharry Bobbins/Mary Poppins episode, thats my favourite.

Sounds like Sky One! You can get up to 6 a day on Sky one and then BBC2 shows an epidose too.

Yer I really like the vigilante episode when homer tries to get the kids to get home with the rap master! lol

In America do you have an Electronic Programme Guide (EPG) on cable for TV listings?
wavlovr
04-09-2002
Yes we do. Its called 'Onscreen program guide' here. I just love it.
As a matter of fact I just checked to see what the Simpsons are about tonight. At 7 its where Homer makes himself a webpage and calls himself Mr X. The 9pm one is where Abe Simpson falls for Marges mother. And the 10pm one is where Homer and grandpa have that tonic scam going on.

Yeah , its great over here .
You can see a week ahead.
Also you can set it to turn to a certain channel at a certain time automatically or remind you so if you are watching TV at that time it will turn to the chosen programme or remind you it is about to bbegin so you don't miss it.
Also we can do seris links so it reminds you each time an episode of that certain programme is going to be on.

We also have something called Sky + which lets you watch one digital channel and record another digital channel, and you can do all the above fuctions so you can record shows if you are out or on holiday by programming in when to record them onto a hard drive type system but its a bit expensive!

I'm surprised they are showing the Mr X one. I know i'm being over the top but I saw that one over here a week ago and it shows Mr Burns selling Uranium to terrorists and homer reveals him via his web page!?

When does the new Seris of Malcom in the Middle start?
wavlovr
05-09-2002
Its usually when the new Simpsons and King of the Hill starts on Fox. Probably around the end of September.
The new Survivor 5 and new ER start on the 19th of Spetember, so I`d say Malcolm in the middle and Simpsons etc starts on the the 22nd of Sept.
On ABC this fall we have a new medical show starting valled MD`s. If its half as good as ER it should be worth watching.
andyk22
05-09-2002
Yeah I think MD's have had a few good previews.

By the way is The Kumars at Number 42 and Coupling starting on NBC soon? They were both succesful BBC2 shows and they were so popular NBC snapped coupling as a ''replacement to friends'' . Any news if Friends is to carry on?
Prettygirl

haven't heard that one andy......they just started showing coupling here in pennsylvania...it comes on right before eastenders do on our pbs station....i must say i like coupling...it's funny

Heres some more details for you.
BTW - what is PBS?
simong2002
05-09-2002
I am sure the Yanks can answer this better than me buy hey its the gap between West Wing episodes! PBS is the Public Broadcasting system, if i recall correctly it is actually loads of different stations in a network. It is funded by fee paying members, the federal goverment and some other bodies. I think it has no commercials. I think it shows maybe things that are not populist but infomrative, docus, art programmes etc. Also good kids programmes like Sesame Street. A lot of people dont think it should be funded by the goverment though as its tv for liberals. Web site http://www.pbs.org And i could have got all that wrong
jansey--ee
05-09-2002
I ove PBS....it shows all sorts of interesting things alot educational but also Masterpiece Theatre...some show EE....it's publically owned and relies on donations...that's why they have these week long fund drives through out the year that make me crazy but what the heck...for a station with no commercials I can put up with it.
andyk22
05-09-2002
Oh right - now I understand that epiosode of the simpsons!!! Have they ever come close to clsoing then and what type of cash do they need. I've heard of these religious channels in the US that ask people for donations of $100's of dollars? IS that true?
wavlovr
06-09-2002
Sad to say yes, and they also send out junk mail about it too. my mother in law is always getting them in her mail.
They have a lot of revivals where they set out tents and parishners come there to be *healed* by some preacher and more often than not its a stooge. People see that and are impressed the preacher is for real and they give out loads of money.
Ever see that movie with Steve Martin called Leap of Faith? Steve Martin plays a *preacher* who goes from town to town conning people. its a wonderful movie and you can see how easily the people are taken in. Debra Winger is in it too.
jansey--ee
06-09-2002
another one along those line is an oldie with Burt Lancaster called "The Rainmaker" he is not preachin reliong but goes to drought ridden areas and convinces the people he can make it rain. Another good one is the Apostle .

I am so glad that the American people have taken Eastenders to heart. I always knew the American people have a bit of east london spirit in them
jansey--ee
06-09-2002
I just wish they would promte the show more on BBCA...they only shwo commercials for it while it is on but nover durin onther shows....so how are we suppose to get new viewers if they just target the ones who already watch. EE puts American soaps to shame.
andyk22
06-09-2002
Wow - i thought we had problems with door to door sales people and nuisnace faxes.
Seems like those people are the only ones who aren't going to get through those pearly gates!

Yeah , I read some where about BBC America really only wants to catch the channel hopper type of viewer and disown the dedicated eastenders fans - shame on the BBC!!!

Is it true though that most soaps are about upper class america? If so eastenders would have some unique appeal I guess but they should try showing some kind of 'introduction show' to get people intrested or advertise on other channels?
Don't they show it in weekday foramats as well? , i.e Monday 8-8.40pm , Tuesday 8-8.40pm , Thursday 8-8.40pm and Friday 8-8.40pm on BBC-A then the omnibus on Saturday?
jansey--ee
06-09-2002
:'( They only show EE on Saturdays from 2-3:30. they use to show it 3 days a week with the omnibus on the weekend. They are slowly taking it away most likely waiting to yank the whole thing and put it on a pay per view type show.

As far as US soaps go they are completely different. Everyone ios glamourous and dress to the hilt. The plots can go on for years......OMG if they had someone like Jim scratching his arse on a US soap people would be amazed....they never have on any characters that are funny......EE would be a breath of fresh air for many but many would have a hard tome with the accent. As you know we Americans have little patience so if we can't grasp it quickly we just skip to the next station.
