Why has no one mentioned the fact that....

...David Seaman won Strictly Ice Dancing, the show Dancing on Ice is a blatant rip-off of?

Seeing as many of the celebs claim never to have skated before, surely this is significant and would give David an unfair advantage (though to be fair, he has no chance of winning this really has he?)

I can't remember how long it lasted for- was it a week? It does give him an advantage but I think the routines that he was doing were less complex than the ones hes doing now! I don't think he'll win, but oyu never no who the public are going to vote for now

It was just a one off, and in the first week it was mentioned that he has skated for a show on a rival channel.

Nor me - never knew the show even existed till they mentioned it recently.

To be fair to David, his size and build are against him with regard to dancing on ice, so I think he's doing really well.

I don't understand why they didn't pair him with Sean Wilson's partner because she's quite tall and would have "fitted" better with David. Sean would've been able to do the lifts etc better with David's more petite partner - IMO

Yep, I agree totally. Both Sean & David are at a major disadvantage because of the inappropriate height of their partners - all they had to do was swap them round.

I think it's another indication that this Show just hasn't been thought through very well. They just thought they could copy the successful SCD format - but it's not quite as easy as it looks.
Does anyone else think the presentation & flow of DOI looks very amateurish?
The presenters aren't very good - Philip Schofield gets by OK, but Holly whateverhernameis, seems totally out of her depth - she reads obviously & falteringly from the autocue & doesn't interact/engage with the judges or contestants naturally.
Torvill & Dean are lovely, but are quite shy - not natural presenters.
They haven't got a 'personality' judge, like Len Goodman.
One of the judges is also the choreographer, which seems really weird - hoe can she be impartial?
There is a huge difference between the marks each week, which suggests that no standards/guidelines have been pre-agreed.
And, of course, John being voted out indicates complete craziness to me!

I really dislike Holly's presenting, she is totally out of her depth on DOI. The presenter of Deforsted is even worse!

I also think its unfair to have the choreographer marking as a judge, maybe they ran out of budget to hire another independent judge.

As far as Torville and dean go, I don't mind thembeing shy, they are who they are and I think the programme only benefits from it.

Never heard of that other Ice Dancing show David was in???

He's no way the best skater in Dancing On Ice, but I'd like him to win as he is a lovely guy and very down-to-earth

It was Chritmas 2004, I think.
One of the girls from Liberty X was in it, but I can't remember who else.

If I'm remembering correctly, David was drafted in at the last minute when someone else was injured and had to pull out. They made much of how little time he'd had to prepare etc (Tho of course they'd picked him at short notice because he could already skate!) and the public were surprised at his skill; and he won!

It's coming back to me now!

There were also Carol Smilie, Scarlett Vickyfromeastenders,
Roland Rivron and some Lad from Hollyoaks.

Jessica from LibertyX was very good but interestingly attracted the same criticisms as Bonnie, that she was lifted, pulled around etc to make her look good.

David, on the other hand was doing the lifting etc and skating quite well and had the sympathy vote.

Can anyone remember who he replaced???

I found it amusing that not only had ITV stolen the format, they'd nicked a celeb and a pro (Daniel) as well!!

David & Zoia rocked!!!!!

I really liked that programme, but realised I was in a minority when I tried to discuss it with pretty much anyone else! I had hoped it was the start of a series, and so it seemed, except the series happens to be on another channel with a less appealing (to me) format. Aside from the presenters, advertisements and judging (!), the thing that I liked about the BBC version was that they focused as much on the professionals whereas DOI seems to treat them largely as 'silent extras'. In the BBC version, there was a short package about each of the professional skaters and they took part in the post-skate interviews etc. I'd love to hear more from the skaters on DOI - we grew to know and (mostly) love the professional dancers on Strictly, so I feel this format is missing a key component.

This time he has also replaced someone and was chosen as he could already skate - it should have been Paul Burrell but after weeks of training it was clear that he wasn't going to be able to learn and that is when they called David in - hence the unsuitable height of his partner as she was originally paired with someone much smaller than David

The thing about Dancing on Ice is that there are far too many presenters / people on screen. It's so crowded. How many judges? How many hosts? Plus Torville and Dean, and the commentator. Schofield is so slick he actually seems detatched, he might as well phone his part in. They need a headcount cull TBH.
