Just noticed this when skimming through Digiguide, but currently listed after the re-run of Eccleston's series, UKTVGold are showing some Pertwee episodes.

Don't get too excited though - it's only a handful of stories. Starting on the 25/2 at 6am with The Silurians, then 26/2 at the same time with The Ambassadors of Death.

The series then *appears* to take a break until 12/3 when The Claws of Axos has been scheduled for a slightly more civillised 7am showing.

The weekend commencing 18/3 has been designated as a Doctor Who weekend, kicking off with Colony in Space at 6am, followed by an unspecified story at nine, with the remainder of the 18th starting a repeat of the first half of Eccleston's series (upto and including Dalek.)

Sunday the 19th kicks off with a repeat of The Daemons - followed by one more unspecified story and the second half of Eccleston's series.

UKTVGold will also show a repeat of The Face of Evil (18/2 at 7a.m. featuring the fabulous Baker boy) and Friday Night with Jonathon Ross featuring the Chris Eccleston interview (21/3 at 1.45am.)

Is this a sign that David Tennent's first full series as the Doctor will indeed kick off towards the end of March?

Do you never sleep, Den?

I like a lot of Pertwee stories so I could well be watching some of those you mentioned. Hopefully they'll have the colourised versions. I hope we don't have too long to wait before some of these make it onto DVD.

No rest for the wicked.

I remember UKGold doing the same thing just prior to the return of DW last year. I may be mistaken but I thought they showed The Daemons then too - it was a mix of colour and b&w episodes, if I recall correctly.

Yep, they have bought Jon again, thanks to the success of the new series. They will probably show every episode from in the weekend morning slot through to the second new series (except for classic Dalek stories, Frontier in Space and the Five Doctors).
The re-run schedule looks like this through to the end of March:
19th Feb: Spearhead from Space
25th The Silurians
26th The Ambassadors of Death
4th Mar: Inferno
5th: Terror of the Autons
11th: The Mind of Evil
12th: The Claws of Axos
18th: Colony in Space
19th: The Daemons
(Day of the Daleks is being skipped)
25th: The Curse of Peladon
26th: The Sea Devils

Why do they skip the Dalek eps? Is it a rights issue?

Yep. They want daleks, then terry nations estate wants money. Too costly. UKGold never shows classic dalek eps. Though almost all the good ones are/or will soon be on dvd anyway.

Coincidently dalek tale the chase will probably never be on dvd, at least uncut, as getting the copyright for the scene showing the beatles playing 'ticket to ride' would be far beyond 2entertains budget.

i just bought it on vhs - they could easily cut it and you wouldn't notice

i think peter purves was one of the better actors they've had in it

I never understood the attitude of the Nation Estate...it seems like sheer greed on their part, especially when it came to the negotiations for the new series. I mean outside of Who and the odd advert, when are the Daleks ever used so perhaps they should adopt a more relaxed and less controlling approach to repeats etc...

Yep, as I said most of the good ones, already out there on dvd.

Planet of... is basically a remake of the 1st dalek story.

Day... annoys me, I didn't like the plot and the daleks don't sound anything like they do in any other story.

Death... is the best of the unreleased ones imo.

The chase is very silly, though the final ian and barbara scenes are wonderful

Destiny... was written as being trying to be as serious as genesis, but the script was too short so then script editor douglas adams added some hitchhikers guide style comedy scenes. This equaled a bit of a mess and one very pissed off terry nation. Also the fact davros is still alive despite clearly being offed in genesis annoys.

Ah, if only we still had power of... and masterplan. Sigh.

They should have left Davros immortalised forever with our memories of Genesis rather than the latter stories, where although Terry Molloy did give us a sterling performance, the scripts were very weak in comparison.

Like you I wish Masterplan and Power of still existed!

Ambassadors of Death is not available in a colourised version as there was only ever a couple of episodes done successfully.
It would be nice if UK Gold could show the stories in proper episodic format for a change, but I suppose thats unlikely.
The Nation estate are as stupid now as they were when he was alive.
Instead of accepting a reasonable fee they are always greedy, and always have been ,as anyone who used to read DWB will know,so they end up getting nothing.
As mentioned earlier, most of the Dalek stories in the Pertwee era are crap anyway so its no loss except for the collectors sake of completeness.

They will be showing the recolourised version of Doctor Who and the Silurians on Saturday morning, although it is unclear whether the colour versions of Parts 1 and 5 of The Ambassadors of Death will be used. Judging by previous years , Ambassadors is more likely to be all in black and white.

As they show omnibus versions only,it would be surprising if they elected to show a story that alternates from colour to B&W and back again.
Welcomed by fans,but unlikely.
I wonder if they will have improved the sound on episode 5.
Their initial screening was blighted by apology captions through the entire episode

Although it has been done before with The Dæmons (in spite of the fact that a full colour version was available!

I wonder if they will show the correct 6 part version of "Mind of Evil" or show, yet again, their omnibus obtained version that was chopped into 6 and put back together.
Although it ws claimed they could only obtain an omnibus of that story,it was never explained why

You're welcome.

Update: It looks like the Doctor Who weekend that I mentioned in my original post has been postponed. At least, Digiguide is no longer carrying the listings for any more than the usual morning episodes over the weekend of the 18th and 19th of March.

It's possible they have put the DW weekend back by a couple of weeks to coincide with the launch of series two on BBC1.

Nice to spot The Silurians on UKG yesterday morning. Such a good story, and lovely to see the underused Liz Shaw.

Terry Nation's Estate is a bit of a bugger when it comes to rights, hence the problem with daleks in the new series, the delay in getting Blake's 7 and Survivors onto DVD (and no more repeats of it on UKG), none of Nation's Dr Who stories being re-run (including his non-Dalek ones), and no Daleks on UKG anymore.

I believe there's a sound-edit in the DVD of Revelation of the Daleks, to remove a piece of music that was too expensive to use. Editing The Chase in this way could be a problem, as the Beatles make a fairly major appearance in one scene.

The Chase is total arse, though, apart from the aforementioned gorgeous Ian/Babs scenes at the end. I don't have much enthusiasm for Nation's writing. Planet of the Daleks, Death to the Daleks, The Chase and Destiny of the Daleks are all feeble, and all seem to be determined to get enough money for Nation to buy his nice house in California (as seen on Whicker's World). The Daleks are much better when written by other people: David Whittaker in Evil/Power, Ben Aaronovitch in Remembrance, and Eric Saward in Revelation. Eric's Ressurection Daleks are poo, though.

Yes - definitely one of my favourites. Hopefully we'll see it on DVD before too long.

Apart from the new series episodes, of course!

Only for the DVD release - any repeats should be OK.

Again, this would only be for the DVD release. Somehow, I can't see The Chase appearing on DVD any time soon for this reason. Shame, really because I quite like it, really. OK it's a bit of a romp but I think it's as good as many other Hartnells.

Think it has a certain charm! Wouldn't mind seeing that released on DVD over some other Hartnell stories.
