Doctor Who is a great TV show with some obviously classic episodes. But for every Pyramids of Mars there is also a Twin Dilemma and there are some absolutely awful stories as can be expected from a show with a 42 year run.

My nomination is the 1996 TV Movie. Just about everything about it was a lazy copy of the 26 year run. In addition, the script was overburdened with continuity. In fact it was so bad it drove me away from the series for eight years.
To say that I prefer fan least-favourite Time and the Rani to it says quite a bit.

Time and the Rani... *shudders* Awful. Maybe the first episode of Trial of a Time Lord, Mysterious Planet was it. The Bedroom Bontempi puts me off that episode completely. In the new series, Boom Town. Good grief, what WERE they thinking? That the Slitheen were good? Bah.

For me it has to be 'Invasion Of Time' - the only story I can't stand (although Dragonfire comes close but I can watch that for Tony Osaba/Patricia Quinn/Edward Peel taking it all seriously).

Horns of Nimon and Underworld gets my vote for my least favourite episodes..dreary, the effects are just shocking and the acting way over the top!

Well obviously there are some episodes not as good as others but there isn't a single story which I completely hate. Bad Doctor Who is infinitely better than even five seconds of Big Brother, for instance.

I don't think any of the stories mentioned so far are that bad.

If anything lacked the imagination that was required to bring the phoenix back from the ash-grave then it's "Time and the Rani"

Although putting the Doctor on Trial wasn't exactly an exciting idea, was it? Crown Court for Saturdays.

Horns Of Nimon, Timelash and The Twin Dilemma...can you find a single redeeming moment in any of these?

the long game, just too shallow

anything involving other time lords promised much but delivered little and made them seem a very useless bunch of ****s not the omnipitant beings that is suggested. except maybe the war games though ive not seen it in years so ill hold comment on that.

Paradise Towers esp ep4 with Richard Briers putting in the worst tv performance ever (though it is strangely very entertaining)

Nightmare on Eden ( some performances to rival Richard Briers' one)

Time Flight (pointless, awful)

"Father's Day". Utterly turgid tripe.

From the old run, "Time and the Rani" - ditto albeit for different reasons.

The Web Planet dragged a bit too much for me. And what was the deal with the vaseline all over the camera lens?

Hmm.

WH:

S01) The Edge Of Destruction
S02) The Web Planet
S03) The Gunfighters

Overall: The Web Planet. It may have looked good in it's day, but it drags interminably & the story is just complete & utter tripe.

PT

S04) - no complete PT stories left
S05) - only "Tomb" left & that's not rubbish
S06) The Dominators - Dullsville Central

PD

S07) The Ambassadors Of Death
S08) Colony In Space
S09) The Time Monster
S10) Frontier In Space
S11) The Monster Of Peladon

Overall: The Time Monster. Complete & utter garbage. The mixture of science / witchcraft etc worked well in The Daemons but here the TOMTIT stuff & the stuff in Atlantis just doesn't gel well at all.

TB

S12: Revenge Of The Cybermen
S13: Terror Of The Zygons
S14: The Face Of Evil
S15: The Invasion Of Time
S16: The Pirate Planet
S17: The Horns Of Nimon
S18: Warriors' Gate

Overall: A toss-up between "Nimon" & "Warriors' Gate". Nimon is over the top panto junk & Warriors' Gate in unintelligible rubbish.

PD

S19: Kinda
S20: Snakedance
S21: Planet Of Fire.

Overall: Kinda. I know that there are people who think it fab & the best think since sliced bread but all thes Eastern analogies don't really 'do it' for me I'm afraid.

CB

S22: The Twin Dilemma (yes, I know it was in S21 but I'm lumping it all together)
S23: Mindwarp

Overall: The Twin Dilemma. Urgh! Poor Maurice Denham getting stuck with bilge like this & then having to act opposite The Woodentop twins.

SMc

S24: Paradise Towers
S25: The Greatest Show In The Galaxy
S26: Ghost Light

Overall: Ghost Light. A close run thing between this & "Greatest Show". Both of just too "out of it" for my taste/

The TVM: Less said about that the better &, as many have said, it "doesn't really count" (imo)

Season 1 (new series):

Boom Town I wish I could say nice things about this (particularly after meeting the fab Annette Badland last year) but I found it all incredibly dull & unsatusfying.

Overall (new & old series & not including the TVM) I'll have to go for:-

Ghost Light followed by The Greatest Show In The Galaxy.

Hartnell: web planet.
Troughton: Not enough exists to decide, but probably a toss up between space pirates and the 2 doctors- if that counts.
Pertwee: Colony in space.
Tom Baker: Underworld.
Davison: 4 to doomsday.
Colin Baker: Attack of the cybermen.
McCoy: Silver Nemesis.
I loved every single episode of the Christopher Eccleston series

The cybermen were not having a good time in the 80s. Attack is probably the story I dislike most, followed by underworld.

I actually like most "bad" stories though- I just accept gunfighters, nimon, time monster and time flight were probably not meant to be taken that seriously, and I enjoy them because they are silly. Maybe I'm just mad. Ha ha.

Twin Dilemma, Aliens of London and... (and this one will shock people)

The Caves of Androzani

I don't know why, but I absolutely hate that episode. Too political perhaps? I don't know, all I can say is that I found it a total snooze-fest

The good thing about the new series is that duffers such as " Boomtown" and "The Long Game" are just 45 minutes long.

Definitely "Boom Town" for me! Actually liked the TV Movie - script could've been better, but thought Paul McGann was a great choice for the Doc.

I thought Boom Town was great for the character exploration it contained.

Similarly, I got vibes concerning the finale from The Long Game so I liked that as well.

Really disappointed with AOL and WW3 though (with the exception of Penelope Wilton who I thought was great.) Saying that, I would rather watch bad Who than anything vaguely connected with zelebrities or reality tv.

Why are you asking about a single episode? Seems strange to me. I think you meant to say story!

On that basis, it has to be 'Time and the Rani' by some distance. Unfortunately things didn't get much better for the whole of McCoy's 'era' to my mind! 'Delta and the Bannermen' would come second.

If I exclude McCoy (on the basis that nearly all his stories would feature in my bottom 20), I'd go for 'The Horns of Nimon' (which put me off Doctor Who for a few years) and 'The Twin Dilemma' (such a let down after one of the top 10 stories ever in my view, so sorry Rooks, I'm not with you on that one!).

'The Gunfighters' is quite good fun, although all that singing wasn't a good move in my opinion.

You see, I think RTD was retreading the ground too often with Mickey and Rose. So much in fact that when he wrote the nth departure scene, at the end of TCI, my family sponatenously groaned at the ever so obvious "relationship quandary" bit with Mickey and Rose.

That and the crappy way Harriet was written out.

But that's a different thread ain't it?

Sorry - not even close to being the worst Davison story (episode?). I actually like that one.

Time-Flight is a pile of shite (that rhymes!), so I'll name that one!

I was actually talking about the character exploration of Margaret Sltheen.

The one who ends up as an egg?

Yeh - I see your point. Kind of a cop out ending though - when did the victims of Margaret get a second chance?
