Expect Corrie (and to a lesser extent Emmerdale) to be disrupted this summer
Hello friends
![]() This Summer, expect Corrie to be thrown about the schedule. The World Cup and the return of Celebrity Love Island will mean Corrie moving to all sorts of wacky and wonderful times Here are the qualifying world cup matches that are on a Corrie day and scheduled to be shown on ITV: 9 June 2000: Poland v Ecuador ITV 11 June 2000: Angola v Portugal ITV 12 June 1400: Australia v Japan ITV 14 June 1400: Spain v Ukraine ITV 1700: Tunisia v S Arabia ITV 15 June 1400: Ecuador v Costa Rica ITV 1700: England v Trinidad & Tobago ITV 2000: Sweden v Paraguay ITV 16 June 1700: Netherlands v Ivory Coast ITV 2000: Mexico v Angola ITV 18 June 1400: Japan v Croatia ITV 1700: Brazil v Australia ITV 19 June 1700 S Arabia v Ukraine ITV 21 June 1500: Iran v Angola/Portugal v Mexico ITV 2000: Netherlands v Argentina/I Coast v Serbia & M ITV And here's an article about the Summer: "ITV is planning to throw a number of reality shows against the seventh series of Channel 4's Big Brother this summer, Broadcast says this week. The reality megaweight's dominance had largely gone unchallenged until ITV pitted Celebrity Love Island against it last year, to some effect. Despite being panned by critics, the show generated acres of column inches in the tabloids and, crucially, managed to dent ratings for the early weeks of Big Brother. The series will now return in the summer, complete with a tweaked format and new presenter Denise Van Outen. Ironically, BB producers Endemol have developed a format called Soccer Idol for ITV, which is also being primed to take on Big Brother. With Robbie Williams already signed up, the show is expected to target C4's share of the 16-34 demo. The final series facing off against C4 will be a reworking of Pop Idol, Celebrity Pop Idol, to be hosted by Ant & Dec. If it gets the greenlight - Simon Cowell's involvement will be the determining factor - the new show will command ITV's primetime schedule for ten consecutive days. "For as long as C4 puts all its eggs in the Big Brother basket we are conscious of and have plans for competition wherever it goes," ITV's director of television Simon Shaps told the magazine. "There are other things in the pipeline that make this summer very different from '05, '04 and '03." Channel 4, meanwhile, is aiming to counter ITV's attack by lengthening the duration of Big Brother - it is expected to last at least thirteen weeks - and shifting it out of its traditional 10pm slot. "ITV went for us last year with Love Island but I don't know that they thought it was a marvellous success," said C4 director of television Kevin Lygo, predicting: "This year they'll throw Coronation Street all over the place too."" You remember last year, with Corrie sometimes being on only twice a week, with the episodes being on at like 10pm or something? Well this year it'll be the same. Ah shucks.

Oh for goodness sake.
Everybody knows what their like, even Kevin Lygo feels the need to mentione their schedule changes and the way they'll move Corrie around everywhere. |

They should take Corrie off air for a while, I'd rather that than different time slots and loss of ratings.

People have to remember as well, ratings over this summer wont mean as much if programmes are all over the place and up against big world cup football games. I remember last time people were saying allsorts
I fully expect ITV to move Corrie around due to the football, but i will be absolutely furious if they start moving it just to prop up crap like celebrity love island. I think they should just reduce the number of episodes this summer only because of the world cup and the fact it can mess up the schedule. |

ITV haven't got a clue what they're doing half the time.
I for one will be tuning into Big Brother this summer. ![]() The fact that ITV doesn't have any respect for its flagship show just shows how bad ITV has got. |

Maybe they could move Corrie and E/dale into a slot which it won't have to be moved around

Ooooh Ooooh. Is there really going to be this much football on itv?
I'm going to be in footballing heaven this Summer. It would be nice if Corrie and Emmerdale were on a tiny bit less- it would be easier to keep track of everything. Gets a bit tough sometimes. So many soaps so often. I don't think they should fiddle around with the times insofar as is possible though.

I'm more concerned about the surplus of reality crap there will be on TV this summer.
The trouble is, even if you don't watch it, the media jumps on the bandwagon and so the papers/radio and the awful Heat/Closer etc will be having a field day filling column inches about completely useless people with very little effort. |

Corrie were heavily affected 2 years ago when Euro 2004 was taking place. I expect the same thing to happen this summer with the World Cup

Also in my opinion Celebrity Love Island is a pile of crap and should never be shown again. I am so angry - why the hell should I pay my TV licence when all they show is crap?

Surely though it isn't just Corrie and Emmerdale (ITV). Won't this apply to the BBC and Eastenders? Or have they just scheduled matches on non EE nights? I doubt it! - Steph

It will apply as the matches are being shown at the same time as EE also. But EE won't be moved to a different time. |

Eh?
Its showing on ITV so why would it come off air?BBC have said they are going to continue as normal as possible - so EE will be shown at same time - its just they may lose viewers as they may be watching football. |

I'm confused now. Aren't we talking about what will happen to EE when the Beeb show their matches?

Firstly, you don't pay your licence fee for ITV
Also they may move Corrie around (I doubt Emmerdale will be affected much as no games will be on at 7) but they have no choice for when it is 'live' sport, I understand that this would annoy a non-football fan, if it is a Sunday/Weds/Friday then I reckon it will be at 10 p.m, with a Monday they may drop the 2nd episode or have an hour at 10p.m, or have extra episodes on other days (a Tuesday/Thursday?) The BBC will maybe move Eastenders to 7 and try and have a ratings battle with Emmerdale or possibly have hour specials. |

At the last WC itv just showed the games of less interest to UK viewers on itv2 not to disrupt the main channel. Won't they do the same this time?
