I for one think that's a good thing - as much as I enjoyed original Who in it's day, the formula as it was then wouldn't have worked now.
I agree that there was an awful lot to like about the return of Who (not least of which was the return itself.) I also agree with you that it wasn't perfect either (I think a couple of tricks were missed) and I too am firmly in the camp of thinking the Slitheen were a mistake.
As to the amount of effort RTD puts into the series - I agree, it's a heck of a lot. But as other posters argued during series one, does this mean that he's too thinly stretched, particularly as he now has Torchwood to concentrate on as well? I couldn't possibly offer an opinion - yet - but I guess we'll find out soon enough.
Re. the other points people have raised regarding cameos, I'm open-minded about the episodes - after all, they haven't aired yet.
