I'd be more concerned if RTD took the series in a direction that meant it lost its audience and was once again quickly cancelled.

I'm not for one moment saying I consider everything in Series 1/TCI to be perfect, but I do think consideration needs to be made for the fact that new Who is never going to be the same as classic Who. It's a reboot for a 21st century audience - one I think which has been remarkably successful in keeping many of the best elements of the classic series whilst attracting a whole audience and moving the drama forward.

I'm also intrigued that some people can be so dismissive of RTD's work on Who. Not only has he written his own scripts for the series, he created the whole 'flow' of the series in terms of the stories which made it up, and has had a serious amount of oversight and input into how the whole series
has been put together.”

I was interested in your response. I didn't feel the need to answer on behalf of the other person but as this is an open forum I was just adding my thoughts to the mix.

Just because I question things or offer constructive criticism to the debate it doesn't make me any less of a fan of the series. I just choose not to be blinkered by my devotion to the series or see things through rose (no pun intended!) glasses. No series, no matter how good the production values, the writing etc is above and beyond some healthy debate and discussion.

As I said, I couldn't possibly offer an opinion of something I haven't seen yet.

However - along with many other posters, I'll be back to offer my opinions as soon as the new episodes air... whenever that may be.

Well according to today's The Sun (don't ask! ), Pauline Collins is to star as Queen Victoria in April. Since that is episode two, it seems that they are under the impression that the new series won't start until April.

Time will tell - it usually does!

Funny. I don't recall saying that was the case.

Well, as I've already said I think it was great, but not entirely perfect, I suggest that means we've actually managed to agree

TBH I've been getting it all week for the Carry On DVDs! I forgot to get a Daily Record today for Taggart, though but I must try to get a Sunday Times tomorrow for the Director's cut of Donnie Darko.

Great minds think alike!

I don't usually bother with a Sunday as the Saturday papers usually tide me over, but I want a copy of the Director's cut so I shall make an effort to buy one tomorrow.

Ever the optimist, me... a 25th March (last Saturday of the month, as the debut was last year) start would mean the Queen Victoria episode goes out on April 1st.

I think we'll see a 'Parting of the Ways' for many other programmes before the end of 'Doctor Who'.

Right, time for some 'Dalek' bread washed down with a bottle or two of 'Bad Wolf'!”

Very good.
