According to Outpost Gallifrey, daytime chatshow host Trisha Goddard is appearing in Series 2 as herself!

Seems to me that Series 2 is following exactly the same pattern as Series 1, i.e. a couple of future based stories, a historical story early on, then a 'classic villains' story mid-run with the cybermen, a 'quirky take on modern TV' episode (a la Bad Wolf), with the classic villains returning for the grand finale.

OK so series 1 was a huge success, and I'm sure series 2 will be superb too, but I hope they don't feel series 3 needs to follow exactly the same pattern.

Could be true, but this rumour has not been believed by most as the scene as described on OG would be a direct rip off of the end of shaun of the dead. And people doubt they'd do that.

Uhh, they WOULD. The last episode of the Ecclestone series was a direct rip off of the Buffy series finale (specifically Willow harnessing all that power and Rose doing the exact same thing).

It's worth noting that OG source is todays mirror, who in turn lifted it word for word from a post on OG's message board. And who can say anything about that's authenticity?

The mirror were doing the exact same thing last year BTW, with very mixed results.

Umm... don't mean to be rude mate, but buffy didn't invent that ending, it's been done thousands of times over thousands of years- it's called a 'Deus Ex Machina'- when a god character comes in at the end of the play and sorts everything out. It started in ancient Greece, Zeus usually being the god character in those ones. Dr Who did it quite well, I think.

Apparently it'll only be a quick flicking through the tv gag. Ala that blue peter bit on aliens of london.

To be honest, The Parting of the Ways was very similar to the Buffy episode Primeval. Not just in the plotting, but in the directing, special effects and script. The episode was definitely influenced by Buffy's season 4 finale (as I think RTD has said before), but as a huge fan of both shows it doesn't bother me a jot.

Did any comic fans find super-Rose rather similar to Jean Grey as "Phoenix" from X-Men? I think it was all that energy flying about in that particular yellow colour...

Trisha?

Surely it's Bruce Forsyth's turn to get his voice on DW?

I'm sure Rose and Jackie have plenty of use for Trisha. I can see the caption now:

JACKIE: DAUGHTER RAN OFF WITH TIME TRAVELLING, FACE CHANGING ALIEN

Or: Age gap relationships - my girlfriend ran off with someone 50 times her age!

I shouldn't encourage people, actually.

Have to agree with you. I wasn't too keen on the Big Brother/Weakest Link etc scenario when I heard about it but it did work out quite well in the end. I am all for a bit of humour injected into the series with cameos but I wouldn't want them to rely on them in the same way French and Saunders has relied on their material for every series by taking the p**s out of movies/TV series...it becomes stale, boring and predictable in the end.

It also has shades of JNT employing LE people for the series which more often than not didn't work.

As always will reserve judgement until I have seen the finished product. Derek Accorah and Trisha Goddard is scraping the Z list barrel a bit though!

Nothing hams up or dates a show faster than filling it full of plugs for current TV shows. Trisha? FFS! Hide his bloody word processor! Somebody. When he's not looking... please...

Perhaps he will give the honour of penning the series 3 finale to someone else. Be interesting to see what the end result was..

What, encourage people to come up with crap Trisha banners, or encourage people to run off with someone 50 times their age?

Who are we going to get next..Zippy and Bungle from Rainbow doing a cameo because RTD and co think it is funny. After all he thought the endless farting Slitheens were a stroke of genuis.

RTD acknowledged that one of the reasons why Doctor Who had become silly back in the 80's was because JNT employed LE people in the show but yet we are seeing more cameos from z list celebs. They got away with it in series one but doing it again so soon is rather predictable. Is this a format we are going to see in every season..

The difference is that the roles they had in the 80s were so far from what they were known for that the story revolved around these LE stars. Cameo roles are more of an "in joke"

I for one, liked the farting aliens, and it was a key plot point.

I stopped laughing at the predictability of French and Saunders when they continued to parody films/TV series year after year. It was funny to begin with but after a while I thought it showed rather lazy writing as they couldn't be bothered to come up with any new material. Nothing against cameos, thought Davina, Anne etc worked in series one but not sure I would want it series after series as then you just start thinking who the hell are they going to wheel out just for the sake of it next time.

Nothing dates a series more than pointless cameos IMHO. Especially with no-one watching Trisha now she's on five, I hope this is just a "Red-top story"

Oh come on - Acorah and Trisha are going to be clips from TV shows that the Doc sees - they're not going to have active acting roles as full blown characters. A minute or so of screen time - not the end of the world.
