audio video out of sync
Chaps, I have a dvd which when played on my cheepo player is horribly out of sync, yet when I play in on my pc it seems much better. Is this an unusual phenomina? Am I right in assuming my stand alone player is a pile of poo?
most dvds seem ok in my stand alone player. cheers Tony |

Sync can be an issue when you either are using a flat panel display (as it takes time to process the image which causes the sound to be ahead of the image) or if using a cheap/ old home cinema amp (it takes time which means that the sound is behing the image).
Having something which is variable and if using a CRT screen with no home cinema is more unusual. My only guess is the internal processing in the DVD player is struggling with higher bitrates of some disks causing the synch issue. |

check your settings on dvd player, sometimes on one of my players, i catch a button and it either speeds things up or slows them down.

Are they NTSC dvd's.
I had a problem with a Maxim-11 (or something like that) where on some American DVD's they would play horribly out-of-sync, I tried changing the settings but even if it helped eventually they would be out-of-sync again. I just replaced it, never had the problem with any other player. |

It's an official prerecorded live dvd of a band (alabama 3) playing, done in the UK. Strangly enough it's ntsc, region 0, (I assumed it was pal) and "compatable with most pal dvd players"
thanks for the interest Tony |

If it's still under guarantee I would take the player back and get another model. If it can't play official DVDs correctly it must be faulty.

Have a look in the settings in your player. I guess your player is set to PAL. If you are using RGB to your tv then set your player to Multistandard. A lot of players when they create a quasi-Pal go out of sync.

Thanks for all your help. The problem was that the player was set to pal, playing ntsc discs. Changing the player to ntsc (or auto) caused a switch to black and white. This was because the scart lead only had composite and no rgb connections. Fitted fully loaded scart and all is fine and dandy now.
cheers again Tony |
