Jayne's Accent
I realise this is a long shot question, but its been the subject of much debate each week in my household! What is Jayne's accent? I know that both Jayne and Chris herald from Nottingham and spent most of their lives living there... yet both have a very definate twang in their voices. Chris' is a slight American tone given his time apparently spent living there... but what about Jayne? To me it seems almost New Zealand like...
Can anyone shed any light and resolve our debate?

I'd suggest putting it down to her husband being an Aussie except for the fact that she's sounded faintly like that ever since I can remember!
I think it's just the East Midlands accent to be honest, not so noticeable in Chris because he's a bit more softly spoken perhaps. |

Ahhh right! I think the Aussie connection explains it, I never could tell the difference between Oz/NZ accents so that was no doubt just be being a country out!
Thanks for replying

Jayne's accent
Around 1985/6, Jayne and Chris went to Australia to train for 6 months.
They were interviewed on Wogan after being there only about 4 or 5 weeks and Jayne's accent was totally Aussie! Terry immediately picked up on it. It's calmed down a lot since then but she kept the Aussie twang for years afterwards. She's mainly lost it now, but the occasional word has an Aussie twang. |

Ahh that also explains a lot. I know how that feels though, i'm like an accent sponge, even a few hours around someone with a different accent and i'm a convert!
So glad its not just me hearing things, and mishmashed as it is she's managed a really pretty accent!

Thanks for replying ![]() Jayne's husband is American actually. He's from Chicago. T&D trained often in Australia and were stuck there for quite awhile after Chris broke his ankle in a race car accident back in 1989. She had ample opportunity over the years to pick up her Aussieness. |
