02 + Singlepoint
merkin

My girlfriend bought a phone + contract from Phones 4 U the other day, on the '02 - 50' tariff. She then got a phone call from Singlepoint, introducing themselves as her service provider. They didn't know much about what she actually had or her address etc. and then tried to offer her a special scheme where you get a free upgrade after 12 months and a new cheaper tariff if you pay them £3.99 a month. First of all, who exactly are Singlepoint? Surely her service provider is simply 02? Also, is this scheme actually valid and worthwhile? Needless to say we are both pretty confused - I'd appreciate it if someone could explain what the relationship between Singlepoint and 02 actually is!!

I'm a Vodafone customer - and my bills are all paid through Singlepoint.

Singlepoint exist basically as a handling agent for your network.
This allows the network to sign up huge numbers of subscribers and still be able to handle them all. without overloading themselves.(makes it cheaper for them)
All of your normal queries for the network (use of the phone and facilities) will go through your network customer services line and not Singlepoint. I have been with vodafone/Singlepoint for nearly 6 months and can't say i've had any problems with them.

It's also best to stay on the tariff you chose when you signed rather than trying to get Singlepoint to change it.

To sum up Singlepoint are not a service provider but an agent who carries out the billing for the mobile phone networks. It's probably cheaper for the network to have an agent or handling company do the billing for them rather than them do it themselevs.

We have three business mobiles and our network identifies itself as Cable and Wireless. Upon investigation, our network is really T-Mobile and we pay our bills to Carphone Warehouse.

'Cable and Wireless' even offer their own call prices and line rentals (I'm on the Access VT60 tarriff for £15 a month, 10p a minute, 3p text, 180 minutes free daytime calls) but surely paying through a third party, as we do, is dearer then being with the network directly?

Oddly enough, we've tried to get our phones transferred to T-Mobile Direct but we've been refused an account!! Even though we're already 'with' them!! Madness!!

Singlepoint have perhaps the worst reputation of any mobile service provider in the UK. Your fun really begins if you have trouble with billing or if you want to cancel your contract. For more worrying info look here Google Groups on Singlepoint Good luck you'll need it

basically singlepoint is a service provider which has a contact with vodafone and o2. they are the ones who will bill you and your 12month contract is with them.

I don't know if this is too late... But if you want to get out of the Singlepoint contract then you have 14 days from the date of signing as a 'Cooling-off' period. During this time you are legally entitled to return any phone and cancel the contract to receive a refund at no cost to yourself.

That said, o2 themselves arent much better - they transfered my pay up front phone to an (expensive) contract with no permission from myself and are now refusing to refund the charges they made.

We have been with Singlepoint for 18 months, in fact we are on our second contract with them. We have never had any problems with them at all.

The scheme that you are referring to is an upgrade package. They bascially give you a free upgrade phone at the end of the first year and recommend a different tarrif for you based on your usage over the year, which may or may not be cheaper.

The fee of £3.99 per month also includes accessories for the new phone. This can be reduced by not getting the accessories.

I'm with Vodaphone/Singlepoint. No problems so far, but I have to agree with the suggestion about insurance.

Almost all extended warranty/onsite agreements are wastes of money. They're for suckers, stay away.
