Anyways as I've already said there's NO way that Phil would just leave his son in South Africa once Kathy dies. Phil will just take him and bring him back to Walford, nobody has even said that Phil WILL get custody of Ben just that there is a custody battle. Besides Phil was cleared on ALL charges of armed robbery and his criminal record will probably only consist of petty things as he's never been caught on a big job before until Den set him up. The Mitchells also have several financial assets and no other children to look after so they can devote all their time to caring for Ben.

Yes apparently Kathy and her husband are both killed in a car accident.

OK that would make more sense then for him to come back to UK ... but as to who would be the more likely or better parent of Ian or Phil I really dont know...

Well obviously Ian because Phil isn't fit to look after any children but I can't see Phil letting this one go because it's his chance to have a child to look after again.

I TOTALLY AGREE, what is the point of killing off Kathy? Gillian Taylforth would of more than likely returned to EE at some point in the future, had she of been asked back. I doubt the producers of EE even asked her to return and just asumed she wasn't interested in returning. Aparantly Gillian Taylforth is livid that EE producers have done this to her character, and I am pretty p***ed off with them to.

She was asked back in 2002 and then again in 2003 and she declined so she has been asked back before.

Rubbish, she returned in late 1998 and 1999/2000 for brief stories, she was due to return in 2001 for a three month stint but that never materialised. As different producers and scriptwriters have come and gone over the last few years their ideas change. One producer may want to bring back someone, the next wants to kill them off. A good example would be Den Watts Berridge brought him back and wanted him in the show, Hutchinson killed him off without a thought, when she left John Yorke wanted him in it. and publically stated that his death was a mistake. Same could be said for Kathy!

They probably asked her to return at the same time when she was committed to filming scenes on FW.

they will regret killing her off cos in the future there may be a storyline which she could have been involved in to make it better and it's too late now. Angie died in 2002 and Den was back the following year. it would have been great if Angie had returned and seen that Den is alive.

Well what's the point of a character dying who hasn't been in the show for 5+ years and we won't see the funeral. It will only affect Ian and maybe Pauline as no one else really knew her. Unless it's so Phil can get his Son Ben back, wasn't that rumoured a while ago???

I'm not really bothered that much but do think Eastenders will regret killing Kathy off. I wonder what Gillian Talyforth thinks of it??

EE seem to be P***ing off a lot of long time EE fans with the killing off of so many popular characters, Den, Angie, Kathy, Mark. Just because she hasn't been seen on screen for 5 years a) does not mean that she would not of ever returned b) Other characters who have not been seen in EE for a much longer period of time, e.g Diane Butcher (last seen '97), Carol Jackson (last seen '99), Michelle Fowler (last seen '95) have not been killed off, so why did they suddenly decide "we should kill off someone else" just to bring in a new character. Michelle Fowler was not killed off when VickY Foweler returned a few years ago.

But the thing is how can we register our disgust at such storylines so that EE bosses are aware that they have made an unpopular decision? Just by making a complaint to the Beeb doesn't mean that the EE bosses will get to hear.

Mark was going to die anyways because he was ill, they had to let him go eventually.

They would never have got Anita Dobson back to play Angie, Anita has said countless times that she would never have returned to the show not because she doesn't like it but because she wants us viewers to remember Angie as she was.

Anita should have returned in the last few years in Eastenders when Sharon came back and Dens return.She was such a great actress and it was such a pity to put some hard work into playing a character during the years that she was in the show during the 1980s and then letting her go like that.Actors and Actresses in soaps should think about that if they ever want to return to a show that they acted in even if they get more successful acting jobs after soap.

look dont blame eastenders its kathys fault they asked her to come back to the show but she didnt want to come back anymore sooo to be fare its the right thing to do .

Don't know why you all believe the red tops, Gilly Taylforth was promoting her Swansea Panto on the Radio and laughing and joking about being killed off but that doesn't get reported because it goes against what they have previously printed. She was upset at watching Kathy's demise in the same way we are, Kathy has been a huge chunk of her life. We have watched her, she has played her. None of us want to say good bye.

I think the Producers have sacrificed one character to save two. Ian and Phil, were and would have been going round in circles this gives them a completely new dynamic as they struggle to do what is right for Ben.

Adam was the first person to admit he was shocked when he heard that EastEnders was killing off his beloved screen mum...

'I always hoped Kathy would come back,' says the actor. 'I don't know whether they ever asked Gillian Talyforth, who played her, to return to the role, but it's just one of those things. I spoke to Gillian the other week and she was fine about it. She's busy at the moment so she couldn't have fitted in a comeback anyway.'

Meanwhile, Adam has a theory as to why Kathy's met her untimely end.

'Her death is going to level the field between Ian and his nemesis, Phil,' he says. 'Now with Kathy not around, Ben's welfare gives them a common interest. It's like sacrificing one character to save two!'


So Gillian is happy about it.
